Do the maps work within the standard run activity as its own data field? Displaying location and direction like google maps would on an android ph

That’s customisable - you can do turn by turn navigation, you can have a fullscreen map-view or just a simple compass-arrow pointing you in the right direction while telling you your already completed distance. You can also view your data screens during navigation but I’m not sure you can have the navigation as a tiny part of your own customised data screens… I can tell you though that the way Garmin implemented navigation is absolutely fantastic. It’s no problem to design your own route and then run it even if you don’t know the area. I’m usually wearing earphones - and it works really well to have the watch read any information to you. So for example, you can have navigation on full-screen and tell the watch to inform you via earphones if your pace is too slow or too fast. Or you can do it the other way round and run your data-screens while having the watch give you audible navigation instructions. Hope this helps!

Can this watch be worn in a steam room/sauna?

I'm not sure what the official answer is but I've used the Epix 2 in both a steam and sauna without issue (typically about 10 mins I spend in there before I get bored).
