It would have been nice to see a brief summary for those who did not read the previous books.That being said, once I figured out what was going on I thoroughly enjoyed the book The characters to me were well depicted.This book was provided for free in exchange for my honest opinion.I highly recommend this book, but warn you - you should read the first two books.

This first book in the Elder Darrow, noir fiction series by Maine author, Richard J. Cass, kept me reading to find out whodunit! Set in nearby Boston, several of the characters travel into Maine near the end of the book. I am eager to learn what happens next in this fast-pace series.

This is my first book by this author, and I am delighted that I have now found another mystery writer to read. This book is full of twists and turns and is an awesome mystery book that is very well written and held my attention throughout. The characters are realistic and the dialogue believable. A great action-packed mystery with awesome characters. This is the first book I have read by this author but I will definitely have to go back and read some of those - like book 1 and book 2. I felt a little lost here like a boat without a rudder.Burton beats up a suspect in the murder of two Chinese women... which leads to the release of the suspect ... and maybe the end of his career. When the suspect is found later, beaten and tortured. Burton becomes the primary suspect.A lot of people are looking for him .... Internal Affairs, Russian gangsters, the Boston mafia.This is an action packed novel full of bad guys and few good guys. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between them. Illegal immigrants play a huge part in this story and there are some comments by the author giving "his" personal opinions (which put me off somewhat). Otherwise, it was entertaining and kept me turning the pages until the very end.

This is the 1st book I've read written Richard J. Cass; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.I loved the characters.I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
