Manna ProLayer 16% with Probiotic Pellets | High in nutrients | 8 LB

My girls have been eating this food for years. They like it best from all the kinds I have tried (not the pellets-- crumbles only, they said). They each lay 1 egg per day. I always add calcium supplement (powder) to the food because I am anxious after having a couple egg-bound hens over the years.....I never lost a girl but I just know it was because I fed them too many treats and not enough calcium!! I vowed to never let it happen again so as a safeguard I just add powdered calcium to every bag of food as I dump the bags into the big bin. It would be great if there were bigger bags-- the little bags are easy to carry down to the girls and they also ship fast/arrive quickly but I think the price is really high (as compared to other organic layer crumbles) and the bags are very small by comparison (unfortunately).SO: When I am being organized, I mix this food that they prefer with an equally nutritious LARGE bag of organic layer crumbles (adding powdered calcium, of course). But if I am busy or disorganized, I end up spending too much $$ and just buying lots of bags of this food because (a) it arrives SUPER fast and (b) my girls love it.

This seems to be very good, nutritionally sound food. My hens were getting thin and I was beginning to get concerned because they are picky eaters, but they love these crumbles. They’re putting weight back on with this food now, so I’m very happy with it.

I have used other Manna Pro products and I am usually happy with the products, so this is no slam against the brand. This 16% Layer Crumbles chicken feed is one I'll skip going forward, though. I was looking for something to hold over the hens until their regular feed arrives, so this 8-lb bag seemed like a good choice. The visual quality of the feed was enough for me to not to buy this stuff again. In the photos, you can see the amount of powder in the bag versus the handful of feed I normally use. Powder is useless when you're feeding hens unless you mix it with fluids to create a paste. What's telling is that this is an 8-lb bag that should not have a lot of powder in it, but it's throughout the bag. I typically purchase 40-lb bags of feed which rarely have any powder in the bottom of the bag; the crumbles hold together.If you're in a pinch and need something within 24 hours, this will work. If you want a quality bag of crumbles that is mostly crumbles and hardly any powder, then I do not recommend this product.

The min my new laying hens started to lay I bought this. I mixed it in with their current feed. They ate it up and noticed after a week they frequency of laying was more. When it came time to buy more feed of layer I added the omega additive for this brand. Omg the quality of the eggs is so good. We have store bought eggs and fresh laid eggs. The difference in taste and looks of the yolk is rich! I will continue to buy mana pro feed for my hens!
