Great Harmonica everything I expected and more.
I have been playing diatonic harmonics for over 55 years and chromatic for about 10 years. I have been considering buying a Hohner CX12 for sometime and finally found them on sale for under $ 200.00. Although there are some bad reviews posted about sticky reeds and poor craftsmanship. I did not find this to be the case. Every note plays very well and sounds great. The slide is very responsive. The innovative design, all plastic body, large slide button and large sound holes take a little getting used to. But I got over that very quickly. Remember that all harmonicas have to be gently broken in and chromatic harmonics take longer.

A Fantastic Chromatic Harmonica !!
The Hohner CX-12 is an awesome instrument that has the sound and playability features that are highly-valued by professional players. As with ALL Chromatics, you must warm the instrument before it will play well. Chromatics have thin pieces of plastic over many of the reeds, these are called 'windsavers' -- if you play the instrument cold, the 'windsavers' will stick because of the condensation of your warm breath into the cold reed plate. You can avoid this problem by gently warming the harmonica before playing it. Some players put the harmonica under their arm for several minutes, others use a heating pad set on 'low'... No microwave, No oven, No high heat of any kind. Warm it to body temperature only -- high heat will ruin it. For those complaining about some of the notes not sounding, remember that not all reeds are the same. You must learn how to blow the higher notes -- it takes practice and patience. Most problems are the player's problem, not the harmonica's problem. The CX-12 is a professional quality instrument that preferred over many more expensive models, due to its sound projection and its unique design that allows it to be taken apart easily with no tools for cleaning and normal maintenance. I own several of these and are my go-to harmonica's over instruments costing twice or three times as much.

Very good professional Harmonica
Ok lets start with the flow below Look and Feel -------------- PROS 1. It looks like a black metal but definitely its a plastic harmonica. 2. It feels comfortable in your hands because of the curve that was created on its back. 3. The button thing or the slider on the right side of the harmonica to play the half notes is very convenient. 4. This is once again worth to create the tremolo/vibrato effect. CONS 1. If you are hard core tongue technique harmonica player then the stains are very clearly visible. Playability ---------- PROS 1. This is one of the best harmonica to begin with. Though i mentioned this as a professional harmonica. 2. As i mentioned that this has a curve shape on the back, it adds value to the player to create the CUP to produce the tremolo effect. 3. Because of its plastic body, the moving between the holes is very easy by adding the saliva for longer tunes. 4. The chromatic button on the right is very smooth to shift the scale of this harmonica. 5. This is very easy to play any scale without having to worry about the mis tuning or sound.... CONS 1. I may not be a professional to say this but the first 3 holes are a bit weak to bend the tune, having said if you are an expert or at least good at tune bending you won't find this difficult. 2. If you are beginner then you might find saliva clogs fast in the holes but again this can be cleaned very easily. To avoid this you may have to tilt the harmonica while playing. Maintainance ----------- PROS 1. This is one of the best harmonica to clean easily. 2. Even a beginner can dismantle this in less than a minute without having any tool. 3. This is made with only 4 parts, the body, the slider/button, the back support plate and the main reed plates body. 4. After every tune, you can just wipe with a wet cloth and no need to worry about any rust as this is a plastic harmonica. VERDICT-----> This is Definitely a YES. You can even play a full song. Can clean up easily and a must for beginners you wants to take this as a serious hobby or a profession.

The Good: Its very responsive and dynamic
The Good: Its very responsive and dynamic. just about "air tight" The Bad: - It's noisy, I HATE THE NOISE !!! - The mouthpiece is a little too wide (they should make it the same as the "Jazz" model). Overall: It's a good harp, but not "done" in its design. Come on Hohner, wrap it up !

Great sound!
When i bought this harmonica I was a little afraid because I've read that there may be problems with the mouthpiece. And yes, it is diferent from the others harmonicas I have. But when I start to play it, the CX12 has become, very easily, in my main harmonica. the most important thing to me is that it has a round sound (i don't find a better word to describe it), very clear and beautiful.

So disappointed at first, still not happy
At first, I gave this harmonica 1 one star. This was my review: I was really looking forward to this harmonica, based on the reviews. Unfortunately, right out of the case, two of the notes are flat, and two of them don't play at all - with the slide depressed or left open. I've just sent an email to the seller. I can see why others like this instrument - I find I prefer the plastic to the metal, and the slide is very smooth. The notes that do work have a nice tone. ...MusicLife responded. They referred me to Hohner's 60-day warranty site. I printed out the form, documented the problems, and sent it out today. We'll see what they say. September 27, 2010 - Update. Good service from Hohner. The harmonica came back within a week or so, and it no longer had the problems I had experienced. They also sent some helpful tips about playing properly. I'm pretty sure it was the same harmonica, only with the problems repaired, but it's tough to tell because it was brand new when I sent it to them. Now that it's working, I've changed my review from 1 star to 4 stars. I was hoping for a tone that was a little more mellow, but I imagine that I'll have to pay a lot more for a harmonica for that to happen - and first I need to play well enough to deserve one that costs more. Oct 4, 2010 - Well, those little reeds still want to stick. I'm not doing anything that would make them want to stick. Disappointing.

Unlucky to get a bad and useless piece
I had heard a lot about the Hohner CX-12 and had even heard its sound that I liked a lot, and this is what prompted me to go ahead and buy it. I had also heard somewhere that lightening doesn't strike the same place twice, so I subconsciously assumed that my harmonica shopping experience on Amazon for the second time wasn't going to be as disastrous as the first one. However, as my fate goes, my first experience of shopping a Larry Adler Professional by Hohner was repeated on me. It is a pity that the Hohner CX-12 piece received by me had quite a few reeds not sounding properly, thus rendering the harmonica useless. As I was going out of the country when it arrived, was very busy, and kinda assumed subconsciously that it would be okay, I couldn't check its performance within the allowed time for return. Later when I played it, I found the defect but by then, the allowed time for return/exchange was already over. That left me with a useless harmonica for which I ended up paying a lot of hard-earned dollars. I don't really know if I can have it repaired, and if yes - where can I get it repaired. So, it is just a piece of junk lying with me now. Needless to say, I can't review its performance and can give my real comments on a Hohner CX-12, just because mine doesn't work. This item was ordered and purchased from 'Gear 1 Music'. The lesson is: Don't assume things purchased online to be okay, especially musical instruments. Don't assume that bad things don't happen to people for the second time. Try and test them as soon as you get them and be satisfied, or you would end up being a sucker like me. :o(

A fine workhorse chromatic
A fine workhorse chromatic, and my go-to harp for most non-blues sessions. Easy bending on both blow and draw notes, great mouthpiece, really easy to maintain. My 64 Chromonicas mostly stay in their cases these days. This was my 3rd CX, one for the car, one for practices and one for taking out to gigs! Thanks, Hohner, and it's too bad that (I hear) they're being discontinued.

chromatic harmonica
The cx-12 has a very pretty design and I really like the sound. It's my first time using a chromatic harmonica, but the sound is so captivating that I'm so happy to play it every day. I highly recommend it.
