Q: Can mount this to a central stud and another stud to the far right, then mount the tv to the far left?

Yes, I had the same issue with for 50" Samsung. Central stud was almost in middle of my TV console stand. Mounted this extension using the farthest right hole for the right stud and whatever hole 16" away toward the left. Then mount the TV bracket onto that and slide over to left so it's center with your console or room. Though its another bracket on the wall the back of the TV is only 2.5" away from wall. Looks sharp & clean. Hope this made sense.

Q: Does this work with the MD2617?

The MD2617 mount looks a lot like the one I have. I mounted mine using the Universal TV Wall Mount Extension Brackets. My walls have studs at 24" O.C. and my TV mount would not work on 24" O.C. studs, so I used the Universal TV Wall Mount Extension Brackets and have not had any problem. My 60" LED TV has been mounted in my home for over 2 years now. FYI: Before I mounted them to the walls, I bolted the TV mounting bracket to them so I could verify the distance between the brackets.
