has anyone used these with a French Press? Wondering if they will hold up or break when I press the wet bag full of coffee

Yes, I clip the bag filled with coffee to the top of the press and slowly pour boiling water over the grounds so they will bloom. Then after a few minutes I pull the drawstring and drop it into carafe, insert the plunger and let it steep a few minutes. No clean up, it’s wonderful I’m going to order another 600.

Can these be heat sealed?

They seal with a drawstring, I have heated them while sealed with no issues.

The string is wicking water down onto my desk. Is there any way to avoid this?

Just put the string inside the cup instead of draping it over the side. Use a spoon to remove it.
