Harley Quinn Vol. 1: Die Laughing (Rebirth) (Harley Quinn: DC Universe Rebirth)

Here’s the thing about Harley Quinn comics, they’re going to be deranged and full of enough ‘trigger words/actions’ it’s guaranteed to offend someone. This is common knowledge so if you aren’t capable of being around stuff without getting triggered (I’m so sick of that word and its connotations) then you shouldn’t read anything with her in it. That’s kind of what she’s known for whether she’s in her own story or part of something bigger like Suicide Squad. Through Harley readers are allowed to explore and vent their base, animalistic thoughts. Harley allows women to feel confident about their sexuality, strong in what they want, and determined that who they are is okay regardless of what others think – of course in a way that could also be considered grounds for institutionalization and a strong cocktail of anti-psychotics. When reading her stories keep that in mind, they’re meant to showcase the dark side of humanity and to be read for entertainment purposes – it’s JUST fiction. Seeing the relationship between Harley and Ivy get so sexualized, including showers together, is pretty high up there on the dream list for a lot of people so I’m sure they’ll be happy. It didn’t bother me because it kind of goes in line with their personalities, particularly Harley’s. If you ever wondered what would happen if Harley Quinn came into contact with Aliens and Zombies, wonder no more. Needless to say she’d be just fine if the Sci-Fi version of the Apocalypse hit and I want to be on her team because that will increase my chance of survival. The interactions between Harley and her friends seemed consistent with their personalities and story archs so the writers did a good job with the dialogue and character combinations to make for some humorous moments. The only thing I didn’t seriously like was her haircut towards the end, the Mohawk just doesn’t do it for me.

Unlike the rest of D.C.'s rebirth series this black value harley does not go back to square one, so if your not a fan of the 52's this is not for you, it picks up right after the52's Harley's volume 6. But in my opinion that is a great thing you still get to keep all of her sideshow and gang of Harley friends who run into trouble of a walker sort,and you get a feel for how the books will go.without giving to many spoilers you get Harley,joker,poison ivy,gang of Harley's,the side show crew,aliens,red tool and the penguin.

Palmiotti & Connor continue their fun series with Harley Quinn. If you have liked and enjoyed their take on the character, you're going to love this continuation in DC Rebirth. Fun story, funny dialogue, and good art. Recommend it for HQ fans and those who are looking for a funny, pure entertainer of a DC book.

Delightful stories and impressive art, my only regret is that I could read it so quickly. But that's comic books for you .

*3.5 It wasn't the greatest thing I've read but I did enjoy it. I've seen a lot of complaints about how sporadic and crazy it was but I think that was done perfectly. I'm not much of a comic book reader and this is my first DC/Harley Quinn/Rebirth/"superhero" comics. Like I said, it was okay. I would recommend people read it if you're a fan of Harley Quinn but don't expect it to be the greatest comic book you've ever read.

The comics by Amanda Connor is awesome. I thoroughly enjoy them as they are brilliantly illustrated and extremely well written. I have nothing to comment besides how great threefold are.

Art and storyline are perfect as ever for the Harley Quinn series...must read for any fan. The cover alone is worth the money!

Eines vorneweg: Wer die Harley-Solo-Reihe in den New52 nicht gemocht hat, sollte um die Rebirth-Neuauflage direkt einen Bogen machen. Bei sehr konstantem Personal in Story und Zeichnung, hat sich eigentlich nicht viel geändert - und das ist gut und schlecht zugleich. Es gibt durchaus nach wie vor einige humorige Elemente, wobei ich zumindest über die Zotenhaftigkeit, die in den New52 noch recht erfrischend wirkte, nicht mehr so richtig lachen kann. Hinzu kommt, dass der Comic vor allem am Anfang auch zeichnerisch dann doch etwas zu übersext ist und ich von der Anfags-Szene mit Harley und Poison Ivy beim 'Wellness' doch eher peinlich berührt als unterhalten war. Abseits davon bleibt der Comic ziemlich Slapstick-lastig und wird auch an vielen Stellen recht unübersichtlich, wenn Harley und ihre mittlerweile doch beachtlich angewachsene Anhängerschaft auf fröhliches Zombie-Kloppen gehen. Die eigentliche Story ist dabei ziemlich egal und Conner und Palmiotti machen mehr als deutlich, dass sie ihren Comic selbst nicht ernst nehmen, sondern eben nur eine Bühne für eine der medienwirksamsten DC-Figuren der letzten Jahre suchen. Und so stolpert Harley also immer mit mächtig viel - teilweise wirklich zu viel - coolen Sprüchen von einem Panel ins nächste, nur um dann in den ruhigeren Momenten wieder ordentlich Zoten rauszuhauen. Das liest sich dann zwar einigermaßen unterhaltsam runter, aber ein bisschen mehr Story, wie noch zu Beginn der New52, täte der Reihe sicherlich auch ganz gut. Fazit: Kann man lesen, wenn man den Charakter mag oder die New52 gut fand, aber man verpasst auch nichts, wenn man Harley Quinn im Rebirth ignoriert.
