I’m pretty sure this is a debut book, but if it’s not then I apologize for the mistake.This was a super fun and easy read. True enemies to lovers in the fantasy version of what I think of as Las Vegas.Main character is ambitious, and from someone else’s perspective, you could easily call her a villain. That’s the great part about it.She reminds me a lot of Jude Duarte in that she’ll do anything to further herself.I loved it, and I thought it was very impressive for a first novel.(Also, this is a standalone)

A rich fantasy setting with inherited magic and a sin-filled city reminiscent of Las Vegas on steroids.JESTER IS ONE OF THOSE BOOKS I CAN SEE MYSELF READING OVER AND OVER. Porter does such a good job of making us root for a sometimes-unlikeable main character. Not to mention the enemies to lovers arc!!! Lisette has to make some hard choices, but she shows that she will do anything to survive--or, better yet thrive. Her goal to become the Queen's Jester is a lofty one, even more so because most of her competitors are using magic and she has none.The characters in this book are well fleshed out and each one interesting in their own right. The politics, family drama, and rivalries all add to the sense that Lisette is up against something much bigger than herself. You will find yourself cheering her on through every goal post!I read an early draft of this book and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. If you like YA fantasy and want a story that feels fresh and addicting, pick this up!

I'm not much of a fantasy reader outside of Harry Potter, but this one was captivating! The strong female lead was so relatable and real. There was just enough suspense to keep me engaged without being over-the-top, and I got through the book quickly because I kept needing to know what happened next. This book is fast-paced, fun, and feels familiar even in a magical world so unlike our daily life.Porter masterfully wove a dark, mysterious story but in a "clean," non-spooky way which I appreciated. I loved the mix of deceit, treachery, and relationship drama capped off with a twisted, yet happy ending.Loved it!! Can't wait to read more from this author!

Incredible book! The author created a world with characters and locations that were alive and engrossing. The pacing was fast, and the reveals kept me completely invested. The author reveals little snippets to keep you guessing and then smacks you in the face with clever, believable twists that resonate with the character and the world.I would pick this one up. It's captivating.

Porter transports you in her writing to a world of magic, illusion, and cutthroat competition. This book includes enemies to lovers romance, suspense, a daring quest for redemption and twists you never expected. I enjoyed every minute of this ride and cannot wait to see what Porter comes up with next!

Jester by Brielle D Porter is the first book I’ve read by this author. Let me tell you, I was a fan from the moment I cracked open this book. It combines magic you’re born with and the craziness of a player town…think of Vegas. The way this book is written is nuts as it is amazing. This was 100% a page turner, I couldn’t wait to finish. Everything about this book deserves all the praise, fantastic!I love that the main character Lisette ( beautiful name) is vying for a job as a Jester to the Queen but she doesn’t have any magic to help her along the way. The characters were so beautifully well written and I couldn’t help finding myself rooting for the morally grey one. Or smiling when something great happened. This was an addicting YA fantasy, enemies to lovers read… one of the best I’ve read in a long time. I finished this book and I kind of want to turn my kindle back on to read my favorite passages.Do yourself a favor and go read this book, it’s a great entertaining read! I’m crazy about it! Jester was such a fun ride! I listened to the audiobook narrated by Reba Buhr who did a fantastic job creating distinct voices. Brielle Porter does some great worldbuilding and puts you right into the fictional desert Vegas-adjacent party city. I loved how there were different kinds of magic and the rules about how it got passed down from person to person. The enemies to lovers arc tucked inside was so satisfying, and there's some platonic friendship drama zested within. I fully enjoyed my time in Oasis.
