When I first received the product, I was thrown off with the gritty and oily texture that it arrived in because I had never seen shea butter in that state. After reading reviews and following advice to melt it at a low temp and freeze it back in the container, it turned out great and is exactly what I was looking for. It’s very easy to spread and great for moisturizing - a little goes a long way meaning this will last me a while. The smell is an earthy/nutty scent of shea butter that isn’t my favorite but I do like this better than other options that have strong fragrance added in.

I am currently obsessed with this product. I have always had normal to dry skin. I used it once after exfoliating and shaving my legs and have been using it ever since. It comes out thick, but after rubbing it in for a while it thins out. My skin retains moisture for sooo long. Super smooth. Someone close to me has very dry hands, with skin that sometimes cracks, so I purchased some for her and will update on results. Only downside is the smell, but since it’s raw shea butter, that’s expected, so I would still give 5 ⭐️s. I usually spray a fragrance over it to combat the smell.

I was recommended to use this raw shea butter to help add moisture in my hair. I read all the instructions, I warmed a lil bit up in the microwave, and I put it on my wet clean hair. It IMMEDIATELY tangled my hair (my hair never tangles) and made it hard and completely immobile. I tried to work with it for as long as possible but nothing was helping it so I decided to rinse it out. Rinsing it out did absolutely nothing. I then had to wash my hair all over again just for there still to be residue in my hair. I don’t even understand how anyone could use this without completely ruining their whole head of hair. I have no idea how good this works on skin but this product definitely has one of the worst smells I’ve ever smelt.

This is my third purchase of Shea moisture raw shea butter. This product that I received today is a little different than the first two in that it isn't white-ish, it is a light yellowish green. I searched online and found out that it's perfectly normal for raw shea butter to have that greenish tinge. It just depends on where the shea butter is from and how it was handled after it was gathered. I think that the scent is just a bit stronger then before, but it is the same scent. On me,the scent dissipates very quickly after I've applied it to my skin so it doesn't really bother me that it has just a tad bit of an earthy smell to begin with. I sampled a little bit of the product I received today and I was happy to see that this shea butter melts very easily as soon as I put it in my hands, more so than the previous two orders that I received. My usual procedure for using the shea butter is to whip the raw shea butter together with some macadamia oil, using a hand mixer. It results in a light whipped texture that spreads easily on my skin and absorbs well it in a few minutes. Maybe halfway through my use of the jar, I might need to whip the remaining shea butter-macadamia oil mixture again because it reverts back a bit to its original firm state. When I've used up my current supply of the shea butter and I get to this latest jar that I received, I'm going try spreading the raw shea butter on my skin without whipping or adding the oil. I think it might spread easily and absorb into my skin quickly right out of the jar.

Edit- Don’t throw it away. A quick google search taught me how to smooth it out. Melt it on super low in the microwave (mine was on level 3) stirring occasionally. Took about 6 minutes. When it’s totally clear- cool it as fast as you can. Like really cold. So I stirred in an ice bath until it started to set (don’t get any water in the Shea) and then put it in the freezer for an hour. You know it’s set if you’re like me and didn’t wipe the rim so the lid is really hard to get off. Now it’s as smooth as butter! Still leaving off a star because of the original gritty condition. So what happens is if it melts (which can happen at room temps if it’s hot), and then isn’t chilled super fast, it gets gritty when it sets. I’m thinking this happens if it’s transported in the heat and isn’t refrigerated. Original post- I have purchased this in the past and it has had little chunks in it, but when I rubbed it in my hands they would melt away. Unfortunately, this container I rub and rub and they don’t melt. I put it on my neck and have white bumps smeared on my skin that don’t melt. Some chunks fall on the floor as I’m putting it in my skin. I don’t know what’s wrong with this batch, but I’m sad because I’m allergic to everything and this is the only moisturizer that I am not allergic to.

Living in a cold climate demands serious skincare, and Shea Butter Body Lotion delivers. While its thick, grainy texture and strong scent may require some adjustment, its hydrating power makes it a must-have for me. It does take a bit longer to apply, but the lasting moisture is worth it. Highly recommended for those seeking intense hydration.

I used to buy this at target and the consistency was very different. It was much smoother not so griddy. I haven’t been able to find it there anymore so I started ordering on Amazon. Every time I’ve ordered it the seal is broken and the consistency is very bad. Makes me wonder if the seller is cutting the product with something else… going to try melting it. Even when I’ve had more griddy texture in the past I can usually rub it out or break it down with heat. But the sand like particles in this jar won’t do that. Anyway… this is my last shot before I try another brand.

But we all have the power to Vote with our money by the products we buy. No more big box chain stores and big pharma. This is a family owned buisiness that was established in the last century. A mom from long ago created the formulas and I have them all. I won't use anything but this for all the reasons listed above.
