Art Matters: The Art of Knowledge/The Knowledge of Art Natural Law, Science, and the Social Construction of Reality Morris Goldenberg was my teacher when I attended Manhattan School of Music back in the early 60s."MO" was a great teacher and working through this book with him was a pleasure. I also worked on snare drum and timpani with him. One does all the percussion instruments when one majors in percussion.What makes this book so great is its completeness. It not only has all the basic studies one needs to master mallet instruments, but also has excepts from the classical repertoire, which gives the student real practice experience.I don't know what happened to my original copy, but I recently took on a vibraphone student and so I got a new copy.The book is just as good as I remembered it. 音大受験の課題曲などにもこの本から出されている曲が多く、受験を考えている方にはピッタリだと思います！　初歩の基礎練習曲からバッハの曲までいろいろな曲があるので長く使えてとても良い教則本です。

I bought this for my son who is entering high school next year. He is a percussionist in the middle school band and plans to play xylophone in the high school band. After looking through the book he thinks that it is way more than he will ever need for high school level, more of a professional level. However, I feel it can't hurt to encourage him to go beyond the minimum requirements that the high school band will require.

This is a nice book if you already has good techniques to play with mallets. It has a lot of lessons about different kind of music. But if you are a novice and does not has notion of techniques then you might get some difficulties reading the lessons. But if you already play, it is a nice book to improve your techniques with a lot of different practices.Enjoy.

I remember playing for this book in high school and it was SO HARD. Little did I know, this was a college level book and my band director prepared me well!
