How To Start a Micro-Distillery For Under $50,000

When I first thought about starting a micro-distillery I started doing research and found out there wasn't anything about opening up your own distillery. Fortunately I found this book that gave me a fantastic outline to start with. This has got to be one of the most difficult businesses to open up and the government does not make it easy. This will really put it in perspective for you and get the gears turning if you are serious. Some people would love to have step by step instructions but it doesn't work like that. There are different states with different rules and soo many different ways to go about opening up a micro. Whether you have $50,000 or $1 Million dollars you should read this book to give you the proper insight necessary to do it yourself. Good easy read and extremely helpful.

Do not waste your money on this book. It takes about 30 minutes to read and is overly basic. Even the font size is gigantic so 60 pages can be filled; if you call 150 words a page full. It could be written in about 1 day using internet sources. For example on equipment purchases it could have been more in depth on used vs. new, leasing vs. financing, growth planning, energy and other operating costs. Maybe even provide the trade show calendar so a person could attend to see many manufactures under one roof. I went to my first Craft Brewers Conference in 1993 and have read every piece of information I could get my hands on and this could possible be the worst.

Written at a time when microdistilleries were just starting as a trend, it provides a good roadmap to objectives and hurdles. Well organized in broad outlines, provides a few direct links. Would recommend.

I would say the negative reviews are for those that think this is an easy process. Clearly the MACRO this book takes is excellent and will SAVE you money if you are trying to set up a legal operation. It has already saved me from making two very large and costly mistakes. The book is an easy read, but I have been through it probably 4 times. Get something new every time. It is VERY MUCH a big picture look and a really GOOD one. If you are looking for step 1, step 2, step 3....this is not for you. This is for someone serious about a business.

This book has great information if you have the slightest dream of operating your own distillery. The book compliments the other books I have bought on distilling to provide a rounded understanding of how spirits are made and the challenges of this line of business.Definately reccomend this book. I will likely pick it up multiple times in the next couple of years.

The book should be titled 'how to google search micro distilleries'. The author tells you nothing of use in the book. Instead repeatedly tells you to look things up on the internet. At one point he was close to sharing something useful but instead said "Get back to the internet and look it up. Yes, I could tell you everything, but you need to develop the habit now of researching". Could tell everything implies you have told me something. I should have listened to other reviews this book is short and devoid of information. Let me save you some money and just add a like to the TTB. http://www.ttb.gov

I hate having to give a bad review and i did read this book from beginning to end. ( 45 minute read) guys don't waste you money. the direction on this book is to do a search on the internet, very little practical information, You can save your self the cost of this book, which is no more thank a poorly written white paper, by searching the internet (which is exactly what the book tells you to do) The author clearly meant well, but again there is very little value on this book.Note to the author: I understand that every circumstance is different and every state has its own laws. however there are many similarities and general guide lines (specially federal) that you could take the time to explain rather than send the reader to the internet, we can all do our own research, part of buying a book is research.

It is short, but to the point. I already have done some of the advice, and I may be able to do it in the same amount of money or less

brilliant.

No images or graphs or charts in this book. I need a little more visual aid to understand this stuff properly. Or maybe its just me...

Absolutely useless book... way overpriced for the information in it. save your money.

possibly 5 pages of this book are worthwhile if you live outside the USA. I can save you the money by a quick precis of all it's info:1) do lots of research2) ensure you're legal3) try and start as small as you can, and buy all you need at the last minute.
