In just five years, Kubernetes has radically changed the way developers and ops personnel build, deploy, and maintain applications in the cloud. With this book's updated third edition, you'll learn how this popular container orchestrator can help your company achieve new levels of velocity, agility, reliability, and efficiency--whether you're new to distributed systems or have been deploying cloud native apps for some time. Brendan Burns, Joe Beda, Kelsey Hightower, and Lachlan Evenson--who have worked on Kubernetes at Google and beyond--explain how this system fits into the life cycle of a distributed application. Software developers, engineers, and architects will learn ways to use tools and APIs to automate scalable distributed systems for online services, machine learning applications, or even a cluster of Raspberry Pi computers. This guide shows you how to: Create a simple cluster to learn how Kubernetes works Dive into the details of deploying an application using Kubernetes Learn specialized objects in Kubernetes, such as DaemonSets, jobs, ConfigMaps, and secrets Explore deployments that tie together the lifecycle of a complete application Get practical examples of how to develop and deploy real-world applications in Kubernetes Review: Good for the CKD - This is a great book for anyone leaning how to use Kubernetes. It’s a good book for prepping for the CKD as well. It teaches all basic concepts and goes into depth about running a k8s cluster. Review: Best beginner book to learn Kubernetes - This book is amazing it contains all the information needed to level up your Kubernetes basic skills. It explains important base concepts. I do recommend this book

Good text, awful code
Some code in the digital book is truncated so not useful. Git repo with the code contains only half of it.

Most of the examples use deprecated commands!
I was hoping this just-released third edition was going to update all the useless deprecated examples in the second-edition I found in the library. Nope. Looks like the author just wanted to make a quick buck and left all the examples unchanged and useless. Even the examples in github are five years old! I spent most of my time Googling how to make the examples work. And some just have no resolution. Like "kubectl run" will not create a deployment anymore--just pods. I love love love "Terraform Up and Running" third-edition and I was hoping this similarly named book will be of highest quality as the former.

decent book to start with
The book is good for getting the basics of k8s. It covers the majority of objects that k8s has, but I wasn't pleased with the level of information given that covers those. Additionally, Git doesn't have all samples from the book and some of them don't work, like in the sample with mongo statefulSet, where the used image doesn't contain Curl command needed for mongo-init container. Despite the flaws, I would recommend this book anyway as it gives the direction where to move further.

Good overview, but not always clear
It gives a good overview of the different parts of Kubernetes and sometimes goes to a nice level of detail. However, it does not explain how Kubernetes itself functions, just how to use it as a developer. It can also be hard to follow at times, as it seemingly expects a decent level of knowledge from the outset, requiring me to look up most new topics online to understand them.
