Just what the doctor ordered
In these days of digital downloads, it's becoming hard to find mailing supplies for CDs and DVDs, and when you can find them they're in huge lots. I needed a few, to send some home-authored discs to friends. I also didn't want to go with bubble wrap, because I have had bad experiences with cracked cases when bubble wrap mailers were used to send discs to me.These mailers are flexible -- the are scored for folding in multiple places, so they fold neatly to hold 1 disc, or 2, 3 or 4. I shipped 1 disc to one friend, 2 to another and 3 to another, and the mailer folded perfectly for each of these configurations. The self adhesive strip seals it very nicely. There's no padding, so if the package is dropped or mistreated, there won't be much protection against this abuse. But they're nicely stiff and rigid when assembled around the jewel case, so they should provide good protection for normal shipping and handling. If you were really worried, I guess you could put this case into a bubble wrap envelope as well. The only knock against these cases, and the only reason for their not earning five stars, is that you can get a small gap at the main folds at the bottom and top of the mailer. I don't think this presents a meaningful opportunity for damage to the disc -- the gap is very small. Most boxes would include additional small flaps to protect this gap, but because these boxes can fold to multiple sizes, I think such a design isn't possible with them.

They're fine as boxes, but you're going to need tape anyway.
The very first time I mailed something out with these, I was impressed with how easily they were assembled and the fact that I didn't need to tape it shut. The package arrived at its destination empty; the glue on the self-sealing flap failed in transit and the item fell out. Ever since then I've been taping them shut with packing tape just to be on the safe side. I won't trust the adhesive on these anymore. That said, they do fold into the perfect sized mailer for however many jewel cases you need to put in there.
