Great reference book for Sport Psych enthusiasts.
This book has been great reference for writing several articles and citing it for different projects. I am glad that Dr. Murphy includes great things like application and real life stories that show how these theories can come to life.

Great resource
This book was written by around a dozen sport psychologists. Each chapter is written by a different psychologist who has specific training in that field. They cover topics such as drive, goals, motivation, teamwork, coaching, and substance abuse. I highly recommend it to anyone who is an athlete, coach, or who is interested in psychology.I have read several similar books to aid with my coaching career, and this is how they compare:1) The Champion's Mind: How Great Athletes Think, Train, and Thrive : This book also addresses the need for mental training alongside phsyical training. It has less technical information but reads more as an exciting and inspiring non-fiction novel.2) Successful Coaching-4th Edition : This book gives you a solid foundation in all areas related to being a sports coach. A read must-have.3) Training Soccer Champions : This book is excellent if you work with female athletes because they are motivated much differently than men in sports.I hope you found this review helpful. This book is a great resource!

For a particular audience
I have no qualms with the quality of the information in this text. However, it is important to note that it is not written like traditional textbooks for college. One really must read the entire chapter in order to be able to pick out what the author has deemed most important (he repeats several ideas). It could be a little frustrating at times to read this book as an academic text because some of the chapters are written more clearly than others. In other words, some ideas are presented well and others are a bit cloudy.
