Q: what are the ingredients?

The package does not list the ingredients, but I think it is rubbing alcohol. It smells like it.

Q: Why are these so big? 4"x4" would be better/

I agree a smaller size would be better for most things. I think these wipes may have originally been designed for cleaning larger headphones.

Q: Mine just arrived and they are just in a cardboard box. The box isn't even sealed. Is this how they come?

First awhile back can in a dispensing plastic tube. Most recent was in the cardboard box. But each is in an individually sealed packet. I find this more easily handled and packed for short trips.

Q: Is it safe for the leather ear pads on headphones?

I use these audio wipes for all sanitation of personal items, such as ear buds, headphones, make-up brushes, even my mascara brushes . They do not contain alcohol and treat everything gently.
