The BEST! A LOT of research prior to purchase and no disappointments
For those who care to read this review - this is the dehydrator you are looking for if you plan to keep it for many years to come. Here are some of the reasons why: 1. We researched. A Lot. We currently freezedry food from our garden, but have been lacking that dehydrator capability for raisins, jerky, etc. We compared dozens of models in "suitable" price range - $100-400 here, on Amazon and Septree model stacked quite high on the list. 2. The programming/temperature read is in somewhat odd place to be able to see and utilize if dehydrator is placed higher than chest level. But there is a reason for it - that whole back sections can unclip for easy maintenance of actual electrical components. It's very easy to service if something goes wrong. Many models are built with parts within units and some serious disassembly is required to fix them (motor, heating element, etc). This model, however, has clips on each side to remove it. That means that Septree can send a whole back part to their customer with easy swap - my cat can do it. Hope that makes sense. 3. The unit performs really well. Yes, it does require patience and time to dry organic matter. We see a lot of comments from people disappointed with performance and how they want almost instantly the results. Just a reminder for such folks - even freezedrying requires time and at times will take 3 days to dehydrate "watery" fruits as well. With this unit - we have made outstanding seedless raisins from our mini-orchard (30 plants). Soon we plan to cure some lamb and run a portion of it to make jerky. 4. The unit has "rails" at the bottom (outside). It helps to keep the dehydrator off the surface and we can tell that the unit was thoroughly thought through when designed. 5. 1k watts of energy use means a typical residential outlet. There is no power surge or anything to be concerned safety-wise. However, We keep our unit about 6 inches away from the drywall (in our garage) and it vents out from the front grill of the door. No access of heat observed at the bottom or sides or back during operation. Functions very well. Motor noise is very quite - pleasant humming. 6. CUSTOMER SUPPORT! We had to contact Septree customer support due to some issues with rails that support the trays. They were very prompt in their communication and assured (professionally) of being aware of our concerns. Almost instantly new shipment was sent from China with a tracking number. Perhaps 4 days maximum - we received a perfectly-packaged box with "we are very sorry for our mistake" note. New parts fit perfectly and we were good to go. 7. We plan to keep this machine for as long as it lasts. Septree appears to care about their brand and supporting their customers. We can tell - they want us to be happy with their product. And our experience with them has been outstanding. 8. It's built like a TANK. That semi-industrial (utility) look. We get a lot of compliments. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! A+

My Third Dehydrator Is The Winner!
I have never had a food dehydrator before now. My wife is growing our own herbs with my favorite being basil. I set out to purchase our first dehydrator thinking that we would purchase one in the $50.00 range. It had plastic shelves and a base with some stainless steel. I got it, read the directions, plugged it in to burn off the factory manufacturing oils and immediately smoke came out of the unit that smelled like burning electronics components, the display extinguished and it no longer responded to the control panel. I don't try to get any purchase that I make repaired when it malfunctions right out of the box. I returned it and Amazon made quick work of issuing a refund. I went back to shopping and picked out a new unit from a different manufacturer in the range of $140.00. This one was mostly stainless steel but the door was cheaply made. I did the same thing as with the first unit, turned it on and set it up to burn off the manufacturing process oils. This one stopped working at random times and wouldn't complete a cycle. It got packed up and sent back for a refund and as usual, Amazon made quick work of refunding my purchase price. I went shopping for a new dehydrator from a different manufacturer with the intention of getting one with solid construction. I found this one and gave it a really good look at the description and photos. What I saw was was what looked like solid all stainless steel construction and it was described as a commercial quality dehydrator. One of the features that I saw was that the heater unit was easy to remove so that the food cabinet could be well scrubbed without worrying about getting the electronics wet. The reviews were decent so I pulled the trigger on the purchase in the neighborhood of $200.00. It arrived and my first impression was HOLY COW! This unit is solidly built. It weighs likely more than twice the previous unit. I plugged it in to burn off the manufacturing process oils and the controls were nicely made. It operated as it was intended to out of the box. I've put two batches of food through it and it worked flawlessly. This unit really is IMHO a commercial quality dehydrator. Now I'm going through the recipe book looking for some interesting things to try. My first batch was basil and sage. They came out perfect. Peaches are in season in New England so we went out to our favorite orchard and got a couple of baskets of them. I sliced them thin and put them in water that I added lemon to so that they didn't turn brown. I put parchment paper on the silicone liner in the trays and placed the slices. Then I sprinkled coconut palm sugar [a complex carbohydrate] with a few pinches of pink salt on them and got them started dehydrating. I let it run overnight and when they were done they were nice and crispy like potato chips. The taste was out of this world. At this point I have no doubt that this dehydrator is going to get a lot of use as we find more food that we can dehydrate. I am very happy with my purchase and my wife is as well. Only one caution that I can think of is that you need to check the dimensions of the unit to make sure that you have space enough to use it. It is big and heavy. The good news about that is that you can do a huge batch of dehydrating given the space inside this unit.

what's not to love??
I am using the septree ten tray for the first time today. i have been dehydrating for over 40 years, and THIS is the one i wish i had always had!! all stainless steel, comes apart into two pieces to clean, easy access to repair if ever needed! i am amazed at the quality!! i will be buying another one soon! it's so quiet compared to Nesco, i cant believe it! i am IMPRESSED SO FAR. i will update review as time passes, but this is great! my only 'complaint' if you can call it that, is the 'recipe book' that came with it....no no no! toss that baby in the trash and buy a REAL book like the Dehydrators Bible and join some dehydrating groups on FB to learn the PROPER drying techniques and recipes!! every single recipe in the book that comes with the dryer is wrong wrong wrong!! i have dried fruit and veg and kept them in vacuum sealed jars for YEARS on the shelf!! and i always cook meat before doing any drying of it!! no raw meats. raw eggs, sure, but not meat. check out youtube to learn your way around! but be picky. anyway, this is a great dehydrator for everyone, beginner and expert. the price is right too, at $200 no matter what the 'coupon or discount' is offered. ! it's a shame they only include two silicone sheets to use, they are cheap, could have included one for each of the ten shelves, instead of the silly silicone 'gloves' (wait till you see the silly finger covers!) and two really lame plastic jars. not happy with that . i already ordered more silicone sheet liners, and silicone trays to fit for liquids. OH! the trays are 14 1/2 by 14 1/2 inches square. again, cant believe how quiet this machine is. it's a little difficult to reach the controls, of course they are on the top of the fan/electric motor at the very back of the machine. you will want it on a low table of some kind, if i put it on a regular counter height, i cant see or reach the control panel. no other complaints, and i will live with this one. i am absolutely buying another one! EDIT: still loving this dehydrator a year later! still the same complaint: controls are out of my reach. planning on installing a lower counter in the kitchen just for my machines. the only change i would have liked, is somehow to have the controls on the front face of the dryer. i know why it's not, but had it been , i could have stacked two, and if i could have stacked them two high, i would have bought two more! works great, even with two running at the same time in the kitchen, i cannot even hear them from 8 feet away. awesome!

Great investment. Get you one.
My favorite Christmas gift. So far. I been making jerky every couple weeks. Set it and for get it. I run it at 165f. Marinate the meat. And pop it in the dehydrator after 10 pm. After 8 hours it shuts off automatically. By the time I'm up at 6 it's done . All stainless materials. Easy to clean and service. Love it. Meat come out dry and crunchy, like sun dried jerky when I was a kid down south.

Best dehydrator
Well worth the money. It’s all stainless steel with easy to set digital time and temperature. The dehydrator is very heavy so I leave mine setup on a roll around cart. The power head detaches from the drying box very easily to make it lighter to handle. I got rid of a name brand dehydrator that had plastic shelves. The drying heat transfer micro plastic into my food.

heater worked but fan DOA
The unit's fan never turns on but I thought it must be on an automatic duty cycle. Now it's too late to return. I found out the fan bracket bent in shipping and was jamming the fan.

Surprisingly very good machine
I did not expect to be leaving a five-star review and I purchased this item. I do not regret buying a cheaper plastic version for a dehydrator. I paid a little bit more and I believe I received a lot more for my money. I am happy that I went for the better product which is rare on this site. More expensive usually doesn't mean better but in this case it was money well spent. I honestly expected everything to go wrong or the item malfunctioning for some reason. I've only had it for a month maybe less so I may be jinxing myself or cursing myself for leaving a good review but so far I have filled this thing up with meat for my dog three or four times and it has been pretty phenomenal. Something that may help somebody learn with dehydration of dog treats which helped me out was not run it at a temperature where you think you'd kill your germs. It does much better at 145° for a little bit longer as when you finish any type of poultry you still have to put the trays in the oven at 350° for 10 minutes. With the beef and fish I don't put it in the oven. My first effort was done at a higher temperature after purchasing all the organs including bull testicles which took me a good 13 hours to prepare as you have to cut all the fat off as fat does not dehydrate and it will make your treats go bad faster. It didn't even take a week and there was white fuzz already growing on my first effort at dog treats. Effort number two was done with less organs as they have too much fat to trim off. Beef cut really thin without fats and chicken breasts sliced thin same with fish, liver. If I can advise anybody with liver try to cut it while it's frozen since it's one of the nastiest meat you'll ever handle. Overall my experiences have been good and keep on getting better and faster. One of my dog's favorite treats now are chicken feet. They take a little bit of cleaning and cutting the nails off with my dog's nail clipper is very easy. Once everything is dehydrated I put it in the The freezer. I purchased for $8 little bags I can put in there that absorb moisture. Now I add dehydrated meats on top of my dog's food that to give her better nutrients. I hope leaving this review doesn't bite me in the rear end and this thing fall apart next week. So far so good and I plan on using it on a regular basis. Another tip I learned that helped quite a bit was the bottom tray was instantly wrapped in aluminum foil. And I have a large 300 ft roll of parchment paper from restaurant Depot to cover up all the screens or shelves making this with no cleaning at all. I don't know if anybody's ever tried to clean grid shelves after letting me dry on them but it's hours of work saved. When these things are done this slide right off the parchment paper and there is nothing to clean off the shelves. You can reuse the parchment paper if it's not too stained or dirty since you're only doing dog treats. Wash all the blood out of the liver than dry its. The more you pat your stuff dry the faster and better it'll work and the less mess it will make. So far I have learned chicken gizzards, chicken hearts, chicken livers are not worth the work you have to put into it. Beef kidneys have a piece of fat that is impossible to remove so plan on taking several hours trying to clean that one if you want to try once but you won't do in a second time. Beef hearts seems to be a really good treat once you cut the fat off. Beef liver cuts while it is frozen or mostly frozen but wash it and dry it before putting it into your trays because it will bleed like crazy and make a mess. When it all comes down to it just fish fillets cut thin, beef sirloin without fats or very little that you can cut off sliced thin works good and chicken breast sliced into thin chicken cutlets or the fastest and easiest meats to do. You also have to try chicken feet because the dog loves them. I don't recommend replacing your dog's food with this as there are many nutrients missing but it is definitely something worth adding on top of the dogs food so they eat less kibble and a little bit more nutrients. I am leaving these tips along with this review because I had a hard time finding information that was clear for all these different things. Google and YouTube all put information out there like this is very easy but it's all about their channel and not saving you time so hopefully these tips help out
