Does not support 165 pounds.
I purchased this magnet because I randomly stumbled across a magnet fishing video on Youtube and just had to give it a try. Thus far I have pulled a few things out of lakes. Mostly lures, screwdrivers, knives, and other things of small size.__________ __________ __________- Look and feel:This magnet is relatively small when compared to how much weight it can supposedly hold. It's also light as well. But when you hold it you can tell it's made of tough steel that won't break easily.__________ __________ __________- Strength:I decided to conduct a test to see if the magnet could really support 165 pounds. My method was easy. Stick the magnet to an elevated metal weight plate and see how much it could hold at the other end of the rope before losing its grip. I concluded that 90 pounds is the maximum amount of weight this magnet is able to hold. I tried 95 pounds, but it lost its grip multiple times. This is 75 pounds less than what the company claims it can hold.__________ __________ __________- Cons1. The eye loop acts as a bolt which screws on to the middle post, holding it all together. I had to use a hot glue gun to prevent the eye loop from becoming loose and detaching from the base. I found that no matter how tight I made it, after about 10 casts it would come loose. If I didn't constantly make sure it was tight, the magnet would have eventually come off during a cast or while being dragged back.2. After two weeks of using this in fresh water I am already seeing rust on the steel.__________ __________ __________- ConclusionAlthough this magnet does not hold 165 pounds, it is still capable of hauling in metal and can be used for magnet fishing. Just don't expect it to bring in anything with significant weight.

Durable - Corrosion Resistant - Strong - High Quality - Great Value
I was skeptical about buying any strong magnets because so many manufacturers had reviewers saying their products were very brittle, and frequently ended up breaking. So, I considered many, many reviews and selected this brand for my purchase, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. I ordered four of them to hold down a tarp that must be moved every day on my car. Daily, the magnets get slammed into the car body by the strength of the magnets, and occasionally to each other But after a couple of months, they have shown no signs of damage, at all. The ring and outside casing appears to be stainless steel and/or nickel plated, and the metal has shown no signs of corrosion, despite a lot of rain we get, here in the Northwest, along with perpetual night and morning dew. The magnets appear to have a nylon separator between the core magnet and the case, which I suppose insulates the magnet against shock when they are suddenly pulled against a ferrous object. The magnets are very strong, and the large rings make them much easier to remove. I'm very critical when it comes to design and manufacturing quality, but these have shown no sign of degradation. The attached ring screws into the magnet case, and in one of the magnets a ring did become loose, but was corrected by simple re-tightening. I think the value of these magnets is very high, and I would happily again choose this brand/model over any other. And no, I'm not a shill, and wasn't paid to promote these magnets. I just think high quality deserves to be recognized.Update Feb 2, 2021 After nearly two years of being outside in the Washington rain, the corrosion resistance has demonstrated itself to be fantastic! BUT - I have a big concern because the magnets in the photos no longer match the magnets that I purchased, or the photo that shows up in my purchase list. The magnets that I purchased have an eye bolt that screws into the face of the the magnet, right down the middle. However, the photos now show an eye bolt that screws into the side of the magnet (case). I would like to order more, but now am not sure what I'd be getting.

Magnet received is pretty strong
The magnet is strong. People need to understand that the pull force is in some perfect world scenarios where the magnet it not slid across the metal surface or pulled from one side (like pulling from the attached eye bolt) to break the magnetic field, but pulled straight away from the surface. And that surface would need to be smooth, thick, and certain steel composition. The ratings are misleading because they are a perfect world scenario, but it's how magnets are rated. People need to read up on how magnets are rated and understand that this thing isn't going to pull 350 pounds, or even 175 pounds, except possibly in a very rare, perfect scenario. I wish there was a way to move the eye bolt to the center of the magnet as it would hold onto heavier things than attaching to the outside where it can be pulled off easier.

They can be dangerous.!!
This is all that it says it is and then some, and we found that it is too much pull for us. My husband and I are treasure hunters and started getting interested in magnet fishing, so we purchased 2. When we received them, we were looking them over and talking about them, and the magnet my husband was holding, bolted right out of his hands and jumped to my magnet, cutting the top of my thumb off as they snapped together. VERY VERY powerful pull ! There was alot of blood and I could of used a stitch or 2 , but we used butterfly stitches cause I did not feel like going to the doctors. I will try to take picture of thumb. It has seen almost a week of healing , so slice has healed + shrunk up quite a bit. Talk about painful !! I have decided these are toopowerful for us and too dangerous. We purchased the 330 pound pull, one of them double sided and one flat magnet. Hopefully you can distinguish that in the photos I am posting. But it's too much of a pull and too dangerous. Let this be a warning to anyone out there buying a few of these. Keep away from children ! These can be harmful ! We cannot even get them detached from each other ! (See pictures) The cut you will see on my thump was almost the size of a dime when it 1st happened. So in between those huge magnets that we cannot pull apart , is a big Chunk of my skin !!

put it in my left front pocket with keys in my right..now sing soprano
Totally strong. I'll comment more as I see how corrosion resistant it is.

Strong and powerful...but....
Small but powerful....thenonlynissueni Have is that the screw that holds the two, parts together seems to want to come loose...I attached the magnet to a secure nylon line and tossed it into the water a few times....the screw came loose and I was lucky I was in shallow clear water....the magnet was stuck on the bottom....secured it several times and after a few tosses, the screw came undone again....any deeper water and it would have been lost. Needs to have more thought behind securing the two parts together...

Way below than expectations.
Way below than expectations. Body then plastic layer them magnet the again screw area, 165 lbs the way they add its not right. Only magnetic area that attract rest is no good. And not easy to return. Kind of stuck with it. Want to get with higher power, but have to contact seller and they decide of shipping and return.

great product
strong enough to get most everything you are magnet fishing for..... weak enough that you can get it unstuck from metal bridges :)

works fine.
Would've loved a slightly bigger variant that wasn't too strong either. But I guess that's asking for the impossible. Was able to easily lift a new can of paint (3.7L / 1 US gal) with it.

Review.
I use it on some string to get tools that fall behind my work bench. Maybe a bit strong. Got stuck on my bandsaw base for a few minutes. Had to slide it to the edge. 👍
