Hobart770030 Ground Clamp, 500-AMP

Compared to the stock clamp that comes on almost any welder (Miller, Lincoln, Hobart, Esab/Tweco), this clamp's spring is a little hard, overall size is a little larger and grip is uncomfortable due to poor design. On all the welders I've had, I can 1-hand squeeze the clamp to almost full opening. With this clamp, I have to use 2 hands to open any larger than 1". With the larger size and heavier spring tension, they should have used a heavier gauge steel. I can twist the handles and get the jaws to offset 1/4" with little effort. The biggest design flaw is the hole where the cable feeds through the handle. It is positioned way too far back so that the cable sits on the grip. When you squeeze the handle, your hand is actually squeezing on the cable instead of the grip, making it very uncomfortable. It's cheap. I'll use it until I can get a better clamp from the welding shop. I don't know how this thing has such a high rating on Amazon. Did they change the design or did nobody notice these things?

Bought this to replace the ground clamp on my flux core Lincoln welder. It's made a huge improvement in performance. With original clamp we were always positioning the clamp as close to the work as possible and that's frequently difficult because of tight quarters. In addition the clamping force of the Lincoln clamp was weak. With this clamp I can now position it anywhere around the work and not have to constantly move it to get a quality arc. Better yet the quality of the welds have improve substantially. Much less spatter, much cleaner welds.The ground wire on the Lincoln is of a smaller gauge than the ring clamp that comes with this clamp. I did not replace the Lincoln ground wire. Instead, I cut off the end, stripped an appropriate amount of shielding, fed it through the ring Hobart ring clam, grabbed a cold chisel and 3lb hammer and went to work. It's not pretty but it's a rock solid connection and works wonderfully. I'll bet this clamp would improve the performance of the cheapest of welders.Buy it, mount it and you'll love it too.

Wow ! MUCH better ground than my Welder came with (Harbor Freight Flux Core Mig)

First off made in china 8 bucks better than most stock welding grounds pretty well made and has strong bite much better than my stock mig/flux core 170 welder

Bought as a replacement for the clamp on a flux core welder that kept sparking out. Has great contact with my workpieces and has a much wider mouth so it can be put on bigger pieces. Would buy again

This ground clamp was ordered to replace the clamp that came with my HF welder. It is very well build with a stiff spring, which in my opinion is a good thing. I crimped and soldered the connector to the cable, bolted it in place and all is well.

I needed something that could grab onto 1.25 inch box section steel. This does the job perfectly without requiring a bodybuilder to open the clamp. Also note the handles in the supplied clamp are plastic coated which make using the clamp considerably more comfortable than similar units I've tried.

An O.K. product for the price but does not have a bonding jumper from the one jaw to the other. Take a look at the other big box building outlet for a better clamp which I wish I had found first.

This clamp is huge and I don't like how the cable is routed on the handle. However, price was fair and quality is good.

Upgraded the clamp on my Mastercraft Mig/Fluxcore welder.Much heavier than the original and very stiff clamping.
