This is my second perm with this product. I have fine thin hair. I used to get perms years ago for body but only 1 stylist gave me a perfect perm without friz. Even with short hair it took me such a long time to create a “full hair look”. I used ‘Biz’ spike it for staying which looked great but still needed to tease and add a little here and there. I stopped getting hair cuts from stylists too as colics and direction of hair growth were neglected. I started cutting my own hair about 35 years ago. I figured if I goofed at least I hadn’t paid for $35.00. When other stylists gave me a perm I’d tell them not to cut my hair except maybe in back where it takes me a long time to cut my own. Yet, they always seem to cut all over my head instead of my back ONLY. When I was browsing amazon one day I saw this perm. I decided to try it very very carefully. I thought last case desperation I could use the solution to take out the curls and re-straighten. I could not do this alone I found out after several attempts so my husband offered his hand. The rods would frequently slip loose. Ugh, time consuming: but this second perm should be much easier as I found ‘picks’ that should hold the rods in place. My permanent turned out great! Even though every strand was caught in the rod I had body. The first Sunday to church everyone noted how nice my hair looked. You could not see my pink scalp. I didn’t have to spend a huge amount of minutes covering up thin areas to conceal my scalp. I woke up in the morning and could slightly dampen my hair and blow dry and my hair looked full. The picture I included shows that there was no friz and my scalp is not visible. This pic was taken at thanksgiving time with perm about a month old. I checked this price with WalMart and it was $3.00 more. Ogilvie is the only reasonably priced perm on the market & I don’t know for how long. I think I’m going to order several. Finally, I highly recommend. Last night (Sunday) we were ready to do the perm Incase its too curly, etc. I have six days to loosen. 1 pkg. contents were missing-the step-by-step instructions. I checked each bottle hoping for guidance. None! i called amazon thinking they could email instructions. The chat was no help; Nichi told me instructions were on the box. Well there aren’t any on box. After waiting awhile I went back and pressed ‘call me’. The lady was very sweet but she couldn’t find any directions to email me. I already knew that the mfg. was closed on the week-end. This morning I called and the instructions were emailed me in less than a minute. Of course, having a business, I I will have to wait another day this week. :-( I’m sure this rarely happens. The robot probably missed the box. LOL IF this should happen to another customer, when you call don’t be surprised when the operator answers “Helen of Troy”. If this is your first time ordering, the description is not entirely clear. I looked every where for contents. This perm comes with Cotton (drip guard) & salon end-papers; both of which I ordered separately and didn’t need. I ordered ‘for normal hair with extra body! Truthfully, for a novice I was so amazed what a great perm product with exactly promised results. If you have short hair buying the ‘picks’ will be a time saver. WalMart had these rollers and included the picks. IF your hair is too curly the big rollers will help until the perm loosens. Hope this helps.

The Good: This Permanent Wave Set cost next to nothing. (So cheap!) It had everything you need to do the perm except for the rods. All solutions, cotton and papers were included. There is no need to apply heat to your hair to help activate the wave solution. I used the maximum amount of time to get the curl I wanted. I checked the curl a couple of times and then just decided to go for the max because I wasn't seeing much wave in my hair. There are two bottles of conditioning solutions included. One used before you do the perm and one for use after the perm is completed. My hair looks GOOD! The Bad: There are a lot of steps to complete this perm especially with the additional conditioning treatments. It took a long time to complete this process. The directions warn you to plan on having 2 hours free to complete the process but I was surprised that it actually did take that long. (I think even longer because I used the maximum processing time.) I hate undoing the rods and checking on the "wave" in my hair. I rarely feel sure that the wave is enough. (I prefer perms that have a finite processing time. One that is done at a precise time.) But, when all is said and done, my hair came out really nice. So if you have a little patience this is a great perm for you. Good luck!

I have been doing it all wrong. LOL. I was purchasing expensive perm kits and the results have continually sucked. So, I went to a salon, two times for one perm because the first didn't take at all and the second sucked. I had a girlfriend do it with a moderately expensive $20 perm kit, and it came out OK, but not great. So, I was due, and figured, well, the reviews on Amazon say this is a good product. It is different in many respects. One, it has a pre-conditioner for your hair to enhance the curling. Never say that before. Traditional conditioner interferes with the perm, but not this. It helps detangle the hair and it makes it easier to curl. A second difference is it has a finish conditioner to leave in the hair AFTER the perm is over. Never say that before either. Works great right after the perm is done to keep it from frizzing and drying out. It comes with the paper wraps. LOL. Oh, and it comes with great instructions. That is new. LOL. In the instructions it says something no other perm kit I have seen, which admittedly is not many, say. The other perm kits all say to stop the perm process no later than 20 minutes after the curling product is in the hair. THIS ONE SAYS 45 MINUTES FOR TOUGH TO PERM HAIR!! I did 45 minutes, and it curled perfectly for the first time. This $5.00 product had better instructions and a couple of extras that made this the best perm kit I have had thus far, and one I would use repeatedly in the future. No reason to pay any more. The BAD...well...they do economize on a couple of things. It does not provide a set of cheapo plastic gloves, but we had some so that was OK. It also does not provide the plastic shower cap, which is a must. So get come, they are cheap, like 10c. That was not so OK, because we did not have one and it took some improvising. It comes with the cotton coil, which is great, but it is not big enough to wrap around the head of an infant. So get some. The shortcomings are easily corrected the second time around for me, but now you know them so you can adapt. This is a great product at any price. At $5. it is an incredible product.

One item was missing from this product. It was still usable with an improvised replacement but that was annoying.

I like soft curls on the crown of my head. When I perm myself, I only do the top with 10-12 rollers. I make sure to saturate the rollers with the perm solution (1/2 bottle only and toss the rest), but I use all of the neutralizer. It's difficult to roll my short hair b/c the hair is always slipping out of the tiny curlers. So this time, I used two 3/4" mini claw barrettes to hold each curler in place AND IT WORKED. I was willing to toss the barrettes if they became rusted but that didn't happen. It kept my rollers in place and viola, I got my curls this time. I've been using Ogilvie for a few years now and it's never burned my hair but you do have to read all of the instructions before starting. Know the size of your curlers and how you want it done (bigger rollers at crown, smaller rollers at bottom, etc.). 5-12-19 Update (Mother's Day): Just permed my hair today and re-read instructions. It tells you the whole process will take 2-hrs. to complete. You'll need to wash your hair first and apply the pre-perm serum and wait 15-mins. under a hot towel (towel cooled down so I continued to use the hair dryer under low hot heat). Then rinse and blot dry. Roll up your hair and applied the perm solution (1/2 bottle for short hair). Use chart for wait time and then rinse. Blot hair dry and then apply the neutralizer for 5-mins. Gently remove curlers, paper and claws; rinse (no shampoo) and apply the stay-in conditioner. Use fingers to comb thru curls and allow hair to air dry. No shampoo for 48-hrs. and avoid pulling/tugging when drying your hair for the 1st week unless your curls are too tight. Works every time. For women with medium-long hair, you may need two boxes. Don't add too much hair on each curler or perm solution won't soak in. Good luck!

I would write 0 stars as when the box came the tops of the bottles were not tightened!! So of course hardly any solution in them!! I was so looking forward to my perm. I love the brand But now I have no perm to give sooo 0 stars.

This is a really great product. Unlike similar options on the market, it has a noticeably milder ammonia smell, which is a big plus. Unfortunately, it seems the package was not handled with care during delivery — it arrived significantly damaged, causing the "After Balm" to spill.

Welle hielt nur für 4 Tage.. Hat außerdem das Haar ruiniert.. Vielleicht ist es nicht für mein Haar geeignet. Dauerwelle bei meinem Friseur hielt auf jeden Fall lange. Schade :(

They stopped producing the product that I always your for my perm and was looking for something similar, and stumbled across this one and it looked the best out of everything on Amazon . I tried it and it did the job got my perm done but it just wasn’t as strong as the previous one that I used . I would recommend it though since there’s nothing better on Amazon for now
