Speedball Art Products 002900 Calligraphy Fountain Pen 1.1mm

Wiiiiiicked calligraphy pens. I use this pen in size 1.9 to journal and doodle in a small book I carry with me and also always have the Pilot Parallel pens in all sizes with me as well to be able to write script on larger pieces of paper. Cant go wrong with Speedballs n Pilots!

This is a very good pen for the price. I addressed 3 dozen formal invitations with no drips or splotches, and no ink leaking onto my fingers. The only concern is that the two included ink cartridges are very small. I believe there is enough ink left to complete a few more envelopes, for a total of maybe 45, give or take. If you need to do a lot of writing, order extra ink with your pen. I used the 1.1 mm pen; the wider the pen, the more difference you will see between the thick and thin strokes.

I liked the price. I was wondering if it would meet my needs but did not want to spend a lot of money. I found the workmanship was good. But it was unsatisfactory for developing calligraphy skills. The ink tends to run unless you get special paper. You get splotches from un-even flow. You cannot turn the pen to get different width marks. In the end I will throw it away. Now one really wonderful plus. I compared it to my very expensive Mont Blanc and found it superior in many ways. It started and continued delivering ink more readily than the Mont Blanc. I regretted buying the Mont Blanc after this speedball. Thus, the purchase told me what I wanted to know. I do not regret the purchase.

While it feels cheapy the writing is very smooth and can be used to have a beginner calligraphy experience. Great value for the money.

I am disappointed with the Speedball Calligraphy fountain pen with the 1.1mm nib because, at least for the 1.1 nib, there were no "sharp" distinct thin and thick strokes possible. It would be possible if this pen had an Italic nib rather than what turned out to be a "stub" nib, which is rounded. The 1.1 size should have given me beautifully sharp and expressive writing, but it did not do what was advertised. I am returning it. Also - and maybe not important - the cartridge did not fit snuggly on the feed tube as it should have, so there is a potential leak problem with this particular pen.

I like writing letters with a calligraphy pen and this one is great. The price is reasonable so I keep a few of them with different colored cartridges to change it up a bit. Put a few on my Christmas list and I'm ready for the new year!

It's not a Calligraphy pen. It's just a Fountain pen. The top is fine and the lines are the same thickness no matter which way you turn it.

Love the pen. the 1.1mm nib is considerably wider compared to Lamy or TWSBI. but perfect if you want darker lines. would recommend to anyone looking for a budget calligraphy fountain pen.
