We bought this for my son who just came back from summer camp. He was excited to whittle a stick that he found at camp. What I really like about this kit is the gloves that help me to feel like my son won't cut himself. The variety of tools are great and the instructions are good enough. Some of the comments say that there aren't enough instructions, which is kinda true, but kids won't read a book on whittling. A few Youtube videos did the job. This is a great kit and would highly recommend for a beginner.

Considering the price this isn’t a bad deal at all. The pieces seem well put together and sturdy. I definitely recommend 100%. Appears to be a good choice for beginners ( like me ) and experts as well.

It is a wonderful kit for throwing in a camping bag or dash of your vehicle for some roadside whittling. The edges come sharp and at a good angle. I'd say strop each blade for a 5-10 minutes before First use and every 20-30 minutes of whittling on soft or green wood. I find myself only getting about 15 on medium woods. I do not suggest for hard wood. Using everyday requires me to spend at least 2-3 hours at the beginning of the week to sharpen 1 or 2 and strop everything else I use. The edge just doesn't hold up enough for my daily torture.
