Very compact CO monitor
I'll start with the "likes." This CO monitor is very compact, and assuming it works as intended could very well save your life. It has one button operation and displays all you really need to know on the screen. As far as I am concerned as long as it screeches like crazy if it detects a dangerous level of CO it's a wonderful device. The batteries are consumable (you'll have to replace them) but there is supposedly a low battery chirp that will alert you to that need, and the screen displays the current state of the battery when the unit is powered on. It takes readily available coin type batteries (first set included).Unfortunately the Operation Manual is woefully inadequate. It really doesn't spell out operation of the unit in any detail. Frankly it doesn't even indicate how the unit is turned on and/or off! Because the description said it has a self test feature I was afraid to hold down the "button" (as designated by the Operation Manual) for too long for fear that I would send it into panic mode. Finally I did hold down that button (after having first used it to power on the unit - and having gone through the countdown function mentioned by others) and after a few seconds the screen started a countdown from 3. I didn't know if it was going to wale away or shut down - but after that 3 second countdown the screen went dark. So then I knew. But I still have no idea how to initiate the self test they describe...And despite several images in the description showing the unit standing upright on its own I defy you to make that happen with the one I received. It tips over every time. In fact it fell over on 3 of its 4 edges, managing to sit on only the side edge opposite the side on which the lanyard would be attached. But even then the slightest breeze would probably topple it. And that would create a problem as the sensor is on the back of the unit, so if it is sitting with back down the sensor is unlikely to detect the presence of CO. I would think that hanging the unit away from a wall or other object(s) that could block the sensor would be the most likely solution. And that appears to be by design. I wouldn't buy this expecting to just sit it upright on a dresser or nightstand, though.I had hoped to use this for travel. I have read one too many articles about families perishing in hotel rooms because of faulty boilers or furnaces. So I decided that carrying my own CO monitor made sense. After all, I've had one in my home for years. I just made sense to have one when away from home as well. This one may meet that need, as long as I can place it nearby in a fashion to make sure the sensor isn't covered.

It doesn't work
Out of the box I put the battery in, it did the 180 second countdown, then sat there at 0 for a few days. I wasn't concerned but other testers (unverified) would show something usually in the safe zone. I figured not much use leaving this on after all it's supposed to be portable. A week or so later I turned it on and it started beeping and flashing. Could not power it off, had to remove the battery and replace it which reset it. It said 0 all day but next morning flashing again. Tested the batteries and they were about dead. Either they came dead or do not last long which is poor for something like this.I'm not sure how it is meant to be used. It comes with a strap. There is no stand. You can't lay it down somewhere as the sensor is on the back so it will be covered. It won't stay up on edge. There is no magnet to attach to it, you can only hang it on something.I love the size and I was really hoping this would work inside the house, in our van, even in a tent. But can't really rely on it.

A Must for Cold Weather Camping!!
COMMON DETECTORS STOP WORKING below 40F !!!Read the specifications!!! THIS DETECTOR WORKS down to 14F. It could save your life while cold weather camping. It has 3 levels of warning and displays the actual CO count.I made a 18:00 minute video that tests this CO detector and shows exactly how it works in our camp trailer in 20F conditions. Look for it on YouTube at TeardropCampNews "Heaters and Carbon Monoxide Detector - Need to Know".Details: This compact device has a has a feel of quality and weight. It features a nice simple display and a rubberized finish. It lights, flashes and alerts during 3 levels of warning as CO danger increases. We use this detector in our teardrop camp trailer. This is a very important safety device because we use a small portable heater that requires some amount of ventilation to avoid creating carbon monoxide. This detector is working flawlessly. I love that it displays the actual CO level in PPM (part per millon) so we can see that our air quality is safe and healthy. It also displays the battery condition. The original battery is still nearly full after more than a year of occational use.To use it we just turn it on and hang it on a hook. After a minute of calibration it displays the conditions and will monitor non-stop.I purchased this detector more than a year ago. I came here to write this review because we are preparing for cold weather camping. I felt this detector deserved some honest praise. It should have a much higher rating.I have to give it 5 stars because I don't see anyway to improve it. The price is very fair considering the quality and function compared to the price of most CO detectors that are not as capable.

Works ok but not exactly as described, price seems very high
This is a compact, nicely made and finished unit about 1.5X the size of a car remote.I calibrated it as instructed, and to test it held it next to the tailpipe of my diesel truck, at about 300ppm the alarm came on, with beeping, vibrating, and flashing light, but nothing on the way up to that ammount.According to my understanding of the instructions, I should have recieved increasingly progressive alarms from10-24 ppm upwards. The instructions show the 300ppm value as promoting various negative physical symptoms, yet below life threatening, unless of course you doze off while driving. Now I leave open the possibility that the intense concentration from a tailpipe might not be how the unit is designed to sample; perhaps if I had been able to more slowly and in a controlled fashion raise the CO level, the response would have been as described in the instructions.Further testing is required, but even assuming for a moment function exactly as in the instructions, I feel this is definitely overpriced.

Broke after 2 months
Seemingly worked for a month then it started to alarm in a fresh air outdoors detecting 100+ ppm. Useless. I am go try to claim money back but of course the standard return is nit available anymore.
