Happy with my purchase.
Very pleased with this array. I have 5 2TB enterprise drives in this, with RAID 5, which gives me about 7.5 TB of storage, perfect for all my games and media. I was concerned that the performance would be low, but it's been great; I'm usually maxing out my eSATA connection on large sequential file transfers.It's quiet, it's reliable, it's performant. If I had to offer any criticism, it's that this unit has too many bright lights, and as a component of my media server, it's sitting next to my TV. With the lights out, it's a little distracting. But all things considered, I'm really glad I bought this.

Look forward to a lifetime of disappointment - Waste of $700
If you are buying this as a RAID on a MacPro, DON"T DO IT. Spend the money to buy something (ANYTHING) else. Any power outage crashes the RAID to an irretrievable situation. Their software does not work with Mavericks and you cannot even use as a JBOD without the same problem. In short, this is a useless box that is unreliable. By contrast I have a two disk LACIE RAID and have never had a single problem. I have had to reformat and reload this drive 7 times in about a year. Needless to say, if I didn't have lots of backups and place no confidence in this drive I would have lost everything on this drive.

Not Good
False sense of security. Using on a mac as jbod (just a bunch of drives) and it is constantly ejecting the disks and causing the drives to fail.

WOW!
It took less than 10 minutes from the time I opened the box, inserted the 5 drives, setup the RAID 5 and formatted the 8TB RAID drive on my Mac. I actually setup the RAID on the R5 screen without the use of the software. The eBOX-R5 is very fast,well made and very quiet. Now it's time to work on my videos.

This can be purchased with drives or drives separately--up to 8TB each--each tested and burned in, formatted, and pre-configured as you wish. I bought this zero drive unit from Amazon, and five drives from DATOptic pre-configured as RAID5+HS.

It works!
This is one of the few USB 3.0 external bays that really works. Unlike others that I've bought, it is truly hot swappable and it doesn't randomly disconnect on its own. Finally, USB 3.0 is as reliable as Firewire and SATA connections.

Perfect RAID system
A colleague of mine purchased one and recommended me to get one. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to RAID systems, especially setting it up in Windows, but with this unit, the control panel does it all. With a few press of the buttons and LCD screen, I built my RAID 5 and have been up and running for a few months now. Another neat feature is that the hard drives doesn't need any trays or screws. I just have to open the tray doors and slide my hard drives in.If you're looking for an easy RAID setup, this is one I truly recommend for the price and quality.
