Hungry Girl 1-2-3: The Easiest, Most Delicious, Guilt-Free Recipes on the Planet

It's not bad, but it's not great
this cookbook is essentially what I was looking for. I spend the majority of my evenings alone since my fiance and I work different shifts and we don't have kids. I really like that these are mostly single portion meals and they truly are quick and easy, and not too terribly expensive after you've already gotten basic ingredients. My biggest issue with this is that the sodium levels on the majority of these recipes is outrageous. Just because it's low-calorie, doesn't necessarily make it "healthy." Most of these recipes have processed foods that are already high in sodium (which is what our buyers with high blood pressure really need to be concerned about). I really don't need to "watch" my sodium, but I like to because I don't want to have problems later on. Being a nurse, I need to stay healthy. My other issue with this book, or at least the copy I received, is that the page numbers listed in the index don't match up with the actual page numbers. I'm not sure if this has since been corrected (I purchased a used copy), but it is frustrating when you're looking for something specific and have to go through the whole book to find it. On a lighter note, the couple of recipes I have tried have been absolutely fantastic. The Holy Moly Canoli Cones were a huge hit for my brother's birthday and I will definitely be making those again on may occasions. I also really like that mostly every ingredient can be substituted or completely left out if you're a picky eater, and leaves room for more creativity if you want to add something else to the recipe. Overall, I will give this book a 4 star review. I don't think this is a good option for people who are already overweight or are trying to lose weight, especially if they don't have much education on proper nutrition. However, if you grab a recipe from here once in a while, not every day, I think it's great.

I wouldn't really call it cooking nor would I call it guilt-free
I have to say, after hearing lots of buzz about Hungry Girl online and occasionally on the Weight Watchers website, I was pretty excited to get a good deal on this book here at Amazon. I'm a college student, and although I don't have a lot of weight left to lose, I wanted to make sure that I could continue my healthy eating habits beyond hitting my goal weight. I even went and looked at her site before purchasing it. I made the Won-Ton Tacos, which were different and pretty good, so I decided to take the plunge. I'm sorry to say that apparently I didn't do enough research.Cons of the book, listed in order from least to most important:-There were very few pictures.-I was under the impression points/points+ values were printed in the book. You can get them on her website, but that's just one extra step-She has an aggravating vernacular. Very "cute," but not for me.-Most of the book really isn't cooking. I don't consider letting something cook in the microwave for 10 minutes cooking. I think "quick and easy" is cut up a few things, throw it in a pot, let it simmer and it's ready to eat. "Quick and easy" to HG means adding odd assortments of fat free foods together and mixing it up, occasionally cooking, but sometimes not. I suppose buying this book has shown me that I really do like to cook, which probably reflects more on me than the product.-The food is bland most of the time. I will spice it up on my own, but really, how much can you add to many of these things?-She recommends things that I've never heard of, are expensive, or are straight up something I would never consider buying. I'm not going to use a liquid egg substitute. I don't really have that big of a problem with subbing eggs in myself, but I have no idea what "real" food to substitute sometimes, or how much of it to use. Plus, that changes the calorie count/nutritional facts by a lot. Some things are just too expensive for a college student, like her pasta substitutes. Pasta is not inherently bad for you, especially if you use whole wheat, so I can't justify that swap, but HG can cut 50 calories so it's a must. I can't afford to spend 2 times what I'd pay for ground turkey for a soy substitute. I guess what I'd say is that unless you eat ONLY HG-style food, you'll be spending a lot on ingredients you won't use much. It's (to me) unrealistic to expect people to have these ingredients on hand, or to buy them to use weird measurements (which least me to the most annoying thing about the book...).-Why would I ever use 1/2 a packet of something? Am I supposed to save it? Where? How? Also, if I'm going to be cooking out of here consistently, I'm not going to be buying packets - it's way more cost efficient to buy the bulk, unpackaged portions. This aggravated me to no end, and ultimately was why I gave up trying from this book. Although the odd substitutions were annoying and probably unhealthy, I can substitute things pretty easily. I will not put up with looking up how much oatmeal is in a packet online before I try to cook something.Things the book did well:-You're not taking in many calories, I can tell you that.-There are a lot of recipes. Many of them are similar, but there are a lot of varieties of smoothies, salads, etc.If you really want to cook meals that are healthy, I don't recommend this book. I love the Weight Watchers cookbooks, and there are plenty of food blogs that I feel give a much better product for free.

I'm Proud To Be A "Hungry Girl"!
I've been on a diet for a little while to get rid of weight I've gained from a foot injury. When it comes to diets, I actually have a major problem that makes it a little difficult... I love food - and to top it off, I have no clue how to actually "diet" to lose weight without just eating soups and salads. I found Lisa Lillien's books earlier this year and have loved everything about them! Because of her books, I have already lost 18 pounds! And you don't have to give up your favorite foods - she just shows you different ways to make them so they're better for you with all the flavor you love (I literally have her 'Cheesy Cornbread Muffins' in the oven right now)!My husband bought me the Happy Hour Book, the Chew The Right Thing Cards, and this Hungry Girl 1-2-3 book for my birthday, and I must say it's my favorite (which is hard to believe for how much I love her other books)! I've already made her "Island Insanity Burger", "Exploding Chicken Taquitos", and "Bacon Ranch Broccoli Slaw" - all of were as yummy as they sound (and my husband loves it all!). I honestly don't think I have gone a day without telling someone about her books (or blogging about them!), and now all of my girlfriends are buying them as well! Her books have really taught me how to "chew the right thing", and I can't wait to try other recipes in this new book! Buy this book! Believe me, you WILL NOT be disappointed!!If you want a sneak peek into the book - she has a website with pictures of all of the meals in the book! Go here and look at all of the amazing foods that you can make : [...]

Love It, But Needs More Pictures
Maybe it's just me, but I'm a picture person when it comes to a recipe. I want to know what I'm making is going to come out looking like. The book has great pictures for some of the recipe's, but just not for every recipe. That being said, the recipes that I've tried are absolutely delicious! I can't believe that they are as low calorie and low fat as they say they are sometimes, but it's true!I'm satisfied with the book and would recommend it to my family and friends.

Full of good Ideas
Yes, I know Lisa Lillen is an American, and uses lots of American ready prepared ingredients that we can't get in this country, and probably don't want anyway, but it's easy enough to substitute our own low fat and sugar ingredients, and count the calories accordingly if that's what you want. This book, in common with her others, is full of very good ideas for interesting meals low on fat and sugar, not to mention calories, and are useful for that purpose.

Excellent condition, Excellent cookbook
Excellent cookbook. But also in excellent condition from the seller. I'm so happy with my purchase! It says Used-Very Good, but it's most like Use-Basically Brand New. It came wrapped in protective plastic as well. The book itself is fantastic. I want to have every single Hungry Girl cookbook eventually.

Another great Hungry Girl cookbook
I've already tried a couple of recipes, which were easy and delicious and marked others for later.Book arrived later than promised but mail delivery generally has been compromised given Covid, so have not taken that into consideration for my review.

Hungry Girl 1-2-3: The Easiest, Most Delicious
If you plan to lose weight, you must get this book. The recipes are very easy to make. There is a lot of good information on how to lose weight by using the "point system" from Weight Watchers.
