this is a magnetic rotary encoder, not optical
I am annoyed by both the title heading and the illustration showing an "optical encoder" but if you take it apart, you can see this device is in fact a magnetic encoder. It does work, although there is a little glitch on each phase when the other phase switches, that no amount of bypass capacitance on the power supply will reduce. I specifically purchased this with a requirement for an optical encoder, and it is not.

Great when it worked!
This encoder worked great when it was working. It just died all of a sudden. Nothing, Nada, completely dead. Not worth buying a cheap encoder only to have it die so quickly. I opened the encoder to see of anything obvious was bad, but the board and electrics looks good. In fact, the build quality look fine for the price, so not sure what died in it.

Never use it for industrial equipment
Tried to install it on conveyor belt, accuracy was a disaster, end up buying expensive encoder to make it work.
