No it's not a hot lotion. I love this lotion and recommend it. Tan easily and it has a great fragrance.

Does it really work for ourdoor tanning?

Devoted Tanning products are the BEST~ non of that watery junk, nourishes the skin, only brand I use. Yes, it does.

What does it smell like? Does it smell like Coconut, banana, or passion fruit?

I'm not an expert on determining scent however the manufacturer says the scent is Fragrance: Tropical Tantini To me it smells like a mild tropical coconut mix.
