Very nice looking lock
I've been looking for a lock that would fit my front door for quite some time now and I just happened to stumble across this one, very easy to install and it looks very nice, it was a bit of a tight fit and I did have to remove a little bit of material but you're talking a very old door, the only thing I didn't like about it is the internals or dry as a bone, the latch did drag a little bit during opening and closing but after just a little bit and I mean just a few drops of oil, this thing works so smooth, I never thought an old door could open and close so smoothly.

Great mortise lockset for entry door.
The Segal 27590 mortise lockset satin nickel, left hand, is a viable option. It works as described, looks great, and if installed with the finesse of a locksmith, will satisfy your entry door security needs. If you have gorilla fingers, borrowed tools, and rely on internet advice, to boil water... Beware! You might strip screws, bend spindles, and leave reviews that blame the parts. Easy install, if you have working hands. Segal is a name you can trust.

Major Security Flaw โ Knob Unscrews From the Outside
This I purchased this lockset for security, but it provides the exact opposite. After installation, I discovered a massive design flaw: the exterior knob can be easily unscrewed and removed while the door is locked.Once the knob is off, the locking mechanism is completely exposed, making it incredibly easy for anyone to gain entry. A lock is useless if the hardware doesn't stay physically attached to the door. This is a significant safety risk and I cannot recommend it to anyone looking to actually secure their home.Pros: * Looks decent initially.Cons: * Dangerous security vulnerability.Knob detaches with minimal effort even when locked.

Door is just a bit too thick for this lock
Like another reviewer, I need to replace a mortise lock for want of a thumb-turn on an ancient door. This set was nearly a match-- the knob, lock & thumb-turn holes all lined up fine. But the door itself is just a bit too thick, so that it was not possible to install the cylinder using the exterior face-plates given, so I returned it. The old lock had nearly flat face-plates. Otherwise, it seems like a decent consumer-grade lock-set. Not commerical-quality, but it's not priced for that either so OK. I'd have kept it if it fit.

Good fit but poor construction. Buy some loctite
Poorly made but can be improved with loctite. It fits and everything seems to work except you have to take it apart every few months because all the bolts loosen up. The machining of the bolts is not as accurate as it could be. Use lots of loctite or better yet, crazy glue. That is assuming you don't want to have to keep taking it apart to tighten it.

Replacement mortise
Great replacement lock assembly. Old tenant was drunk and lost his keys which required a locksmith to drill out the old cylinder the the old mortise box, causing the box to be unreliable and made the deadbolt unusable. This drop in replacement was fairly easy. The old door plate for the mortise box had to be transplanted to the new mortise due to the geometries of the door itself. Required the old plate to still be files to allow deadbolt and latch to freely slide. Also found I had to open the new mortise to file the deadbolt mechanism slightly to allow the keys to fully engage the deadbolt in a locked position AND allow the key to fully retire for removal. For the cost, this extra work was worth it.

Very eye catching, adds elegance and beaty to the door and overall home appearance upon approach.
Very beautiful, works great, some minor adjustments since the door is original to the home built in the 40s. Many compliments on the appearance and elegance of the product. Felt like a brain surgeon might be needed to install, the instructions can be more practical and user friendly. Have a buddy with you because it may take two minds to understand the instructions.
