Generic Chinese unit
I did quite a lot of research into Chinese unknown-brand type Android powered car head units and as part of that research Eonon came up as a reasonable option.I've been installing car stereos for years, not so much in the last decade as my vehicles came with decent enough factory systems - so getting back in to car audio tech was quite exciting, especially as a new breed of head units were available on the market and not restricted to the standard offerings from kenwood, pioneer, alpine etc.To discover that Android was now a stock option (rather than android auto) alongside larger screens for single/double din options was also exciting so i thought i'd dip my toe in at the cheaper end of the market to see if i could get on with it.So upon delivery i inspected the contents and with regard to quality...well...its not a full size unit, its mechless, so no need for a large compartment out back. The connections are all plug and clip types, so no onboard RCA's, which is a tad annoying as you now have the full compliment of female RCA sockets dangling on a loom, rather than only those you need along with a host of other connectors, so its a messy affair to say the least. You'll have to fit all of these before fitting the cage, especially where the GPS antenna is regarded as you wont get access to it unless you have child fingers. The screen height is movable on a crude kind of pull and push mech, akin to what you would find on a cheap phone mount, its not smooth and you might need two people to do it successfully when its not mounted. The cable that attaches to the screen from the head unit is awful, I would give it a short life if you tend to move the screen around a fair bit - its extremely thin stranded cable and has an awkward clip to get it in and out. Other manufacturers use a proper ribbon cable, similar to that of an old fashioned IDE cable from PC's, which are far more rugged and inspire at least a little more confidence.Powering the unit up, its quite quick from a cold boot, maybe 10-15 seconds max (it is almost instant on every ignition switch being used the same day) and the interface is pleasant enough, its clean and clear to the point where you shouldn't have to take your eyes off the road to faff around too much - until you get to the DSP, set that up before moving as its a ridiculous 32 band EQ - unless you're some kind of purist, no one needs 32 bands!.The integration into OEM systems such as steering wheel control was hit and miss, i used a connects2 canbus interface to both control the steering wheel and audible reverse sensors - the instructions are pretty weak here, not telling you exactly what connects to where to enable this but rather giving you two cables labelled 'switch 1, switch2' i think with no real idea of where they go - after a bit of googling i found out where they go and proceeded with the 'learn' feature of the stalks/buttons etc - it worked first time, but then when i removed the unit to make some changes the facia, it forgot them - so i reprogrammed them and it just decided 'nah'.....not working anymore. Then all of a sudden vol-up would work, but not vol-down.After messing around with the system for a few hours, i felt unimpressed by what £230 had bought, granted, this isn't a lot, but you're almost in to brand name territory here, granted not with the host of features, but the guarantee that it will do what it says.Screen quality was ok, could have been better, but probably not likely at this price. i've since noticed a lot of the really cheap £100+ units seem to use the same screen -might be a different panel inside, but it looks identical with the touch buttons too.sound quality, well, i didn't really get that far, although the DSP seemed OK, the EQ was completely OTT. I hadn't yet plumbed in my sub (Hertz/pioneer amp) so cant comment on that, but through the stock speakers, it sounded ok.3gb ram?....i didn't really open enough apps to see if that was enough to keep it going - but from what i did open, it seemed fluid enough - its no samsung device, but it seemed to do ok - if you had waze, google maps, spotify, radio app, media player and the OS etc running at the same time, 3Gb might be pushing it i guessI cant recommend the unit and to this point, I think it might be ok if it were £100-150 as a starter unit, but not in the £200-250 bracket.Amazon returns has been pretty shoddy too, its been 10 days since return and still no refund, I contacted them after 3 or so days after confirmed delivery back as its usually a really quick turnaround, and they assured me i would be refunded that day - but a week on and still no refund, although i do understand that they have a 7-14 policy, but a quicker turnaround would have meant a quicker re-purchase of another device - i've gone elsewhere because of this and ordered a unit direct from the manufacturers website.

Not the “Flagship” promised
First impressions on opening the box “wow” nice bit of kitUpon installing the unit the problems really start. On top of the £239 price tag, you then need to purchase your own satnav app (anything upto £100+)Accuracy of the satnav leaves a lot to desire often there is a lag or loss of signal.I have TPMS, DashCam and DAB+ connected, the system can not handle this, the screen will freeze and become non responsive.Like wise, playing a video file with the built in media player is a waste of effort, for the first 5-10minutes the picture and audio remain in perfect sync, however after 30 minutes there is a clear 4-5seconds lapse in audio, after 60minutes you lose the plot.Upon contacting Eonon, I was advised this unit is not actually a “Flagship” system, its their entry level ???? exactly who do they think they are? Pioneer or JVCMy main concern is the amount of heat this generates within the dash, there is a real need for cooling fans at the rear, when you consider this is fitted in a motorhome, that we regularly drive 100s miles per day touring, I am not comfortable how warm the unit and dash becomes.Wifi can be hit and miss and drop out even when the source is close by and full signal. When setting up various built in services I have counted no fewer than four different passcodes are required, one would expect all passcodes for system services would be the same, or simply one master log in.Dont get me wrong, its a nice looking unit, but the functionality leaves lots to be desired, you could argue I may have received a bad unit, however my friend bought the same unit same seller from flea bay at the same time, they are having the exact same issues!Perhaps I am more fortunate as I bought mine on Prime, so easy to return, possibly the best point this unit has to other.Sorry just not worth the money or the bugs
