We Go On: Finding Purpose in All of Life’s Sorrows and Joys

Comforting and relatable
I really appreciate this book and the author's transparency. My mom passed two years ago, and my life has not been the same since. I have been figuring out what's next for me. It's not easy. This book validated my feelings of anger. I listened to the audiobook twice and also purchased the Kindle version. Looking forward to revisiting the book as needed. The author wrestled with many of the questions that I had. I like how the book inspired me to open the Bible and to read Ecclesiastes for myself. What a remarkable work!

A Challenging, Heart Wrenching Journey
John's storytelling in We Go On is a engaging story which causes the reader to reach inside and ask himself how he might respond in a similar situation. He shares his incredible journey of heartbreak, heartache, and restoration to his family and, most importantly, God through his in-depth journey and study through the book of Ecclesiastes. This isn't a exegesis of the Biblical text and follows a personal, pragmatic understanding of the text through the author's experience.Personally, I didn't find this book to be an easy read, as the context is heavy but very much needed. I took weeks to read it as I would read a chapter, then engage the thoughts, prayers, and questions in my thought and prayer life.I really appreciate how John expresses Ecclesiastes' perspective that there is a time for all things, including laughing and mourning. Not all things that happen in life will be great as there will also be a time where things don't go your way. Additionally, like coffee which has its own bitterness and many cover the true taste of the coffee with cream and sugar, we need to learn to embrace the bitterness that life brings, as it can bring us closer to God.We Go On expresses not only how life goes on for those after heartache, but those who believe in Christ will go on through eternal life in the presence of Christ. How will you respond when those tough moments inevitably hit? Will you run to or from God?What a beautiful story of redemption. I would recommend this book to those who are hurting or those who will hurt.

10/10 read!! Already got another copy for a friend!
We. Go. On. // “Enjoying your life is a spiritual discipline. It’s being human- just as God created you.” Man this book was a breath of fresh air. After a long season of complex pain and grief, I have been very encouraged by this read and the short films that go with it. This book isn’t about pretending all of life is fine, but it’s about learning to life and thrive through each season, with others. If you’ve heard @jawn_o speak, you know he’s good with words and breaking down big topics in a way anyone can process. He’s impactful, relatable, wise, and honest.“We Go On” is a continuation of all that.I’m thankful for how John openly shares his process of grief and growth. He cares about people and helping them find purpose, more than pretending He’s got it all figured out on His own. That’s something to admire. That’s something to learn from. This book is solid. It’s great for whatever season of life you may be in.•Processing pain and suffering? Read it.•Needing encouragement and wisdom? Read it.•Needing practical ways to go on, to find purpose? Read it.•Experiencing joy and peace already? Great, read it.Okay okay- In short: “We Go On” is def worth your time and dollars, get it and watch the short doc series on youtube!!

We've all been discouraged...John's book, true to the title, will help us to go on.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). God knows that life in a fallen world brings trials of various kinds. But being the affectionate Father he is, he promises to provide us with the comfort of his presence as we traverse the valleys of life. And I thank God for John’s pastorally wise and hopeful reflections on endurance in the Christian life...reflections that God used for my own comfort in Him. Reading “We Go On” feels like having a conversation with a good friend, whether you know John or not. His sober reflections, insightful questions, and honest accounting of his own experiences work in tandem with the truths he pulls from Ecclesiastes to create a volume as searching as it is refreshing. "We Go On" is an exercise in hopeful endurance for the Christian––an endurance that is fueled by a good God who is taking the ingredients of our life and cooking up something greater than we could ever imagine. Whether you’re in a season of discouragement or joy, anger or contentedness, apathy or excitement, John’s book will serve your soul well.
