Wow, 1990s "Sold on TV" junk
I knew going into this it was a risky proposition. The video in the group of pictures featured someone from the 90s doing an ad like she's Billy Mays selling Oxyclean. The two I purchased are now in a box ready to return. My one cat wants to "bury" his food when he's done eating it - upending the bowl or flopping at a silicone mat we have under the bowls. I thought this would be a good idea, if I could "train" him to step on the lever.I'll be honest, the product is clever and seemed like a good idea. In practice, though, the execution wasn't clever or any good. And let's be honest, do you really think you'll be able to train your cat how to stand "just right" to eat their food? God be with you if you do.When placed on a solid surface, the lever is difficult to open reliably. If your cat can put several pounds of pressures on it, it may open - only to find the opening too small for their head. There's about 3.5 inches of space between the bottom blue part and the clear plastic lid. So your cat, that just got the darn thing open is trying to squeeze in to eat.Part of the problem seems to be the mechanism being easy to disassemble for cleaning. The parts need to go back in a precise way, but they don't seem to stay that way. And if the lever hinge isn't in the exact spot, the amount of weight needed to open increases and the mechanism becomes janky and the lid flies open.I don't know who I would recommend this to. It's not for cats, and anything lighter than a cat wouldn't be large enough to open it when stepping on the lever. But hey, it's easy to clean. It's got that going for it.

Really fun!
It took my cat 2-3 weeks to learn to use it, but I LOVE this! It's exactly what I was looking for.My thinking was, if our food goes bad left outside, I'msure cat food does too. I keep the rest of my cat's food in a sealed stainless steel container, but I needed something to protect her bowl. I'm surprised that this one was one of the only existing options.Pros:- works well, as advertised- very easy to clean--it comes apart.Cons:- It is all made of plastic. I wish it was ceramic & glass, since they're the safest materials for cat bowls. However, I solved it by placing a ceramic bowl inside this covered one, so it works out :)- I wish the opening was wider. My cat eats with her ears tucked back, stretching her neck, and swallows without chewing, to avoid touching the lid above her head. Often she pulls the kibble out with her paw and eats it outside of the bowl, to eat more comfortably. So I guess it works out for her too..

Naaaaaah
If I could have given a half a start, I would have. Poor product, poor design. I am a human, and it's complicated to open, as the opening mechanism isn't smooth, doesn't open the hood all the way so a cat/dog would have to tilt its head sideways to even get a nibble. Don't waste your money, just save up and get a chip operated feeder. Uggghhhhhh, and I was so hopeful, too

Not Designed Well Enough
This is a nice idea, and I wish it worked. Unfortunately, the lid does not go up and out of the way, but is so close to an adult cat's head, that an ear or two must be folded back, and there is no room for the cat to chew. But if the cat moves its head out of the dish area, the cat will likely lift its paw from the step, and when that happens, the lid immediately comes down onto the cat's head. The dish is also poorly weighted, which you can see in the product's video. Depressing the bar shakes the dish. Even putting a small glass dish inside, the dish is still apt to wobble. This step feeder also has a small opening at both sides, so it will not protect against ants.If your cat has a very small head, and you want to spend time trying to train him or her, maybe it will work for you, but in my opinion, I think trying one of the dish products based on movement or a microchip may work better (also more expensive).

Fell short of expectations.
The media could not be loaded. I like the concept but (1) when you press on the pad it does not open all the way and then it comes back down immediately, discouraging the cat from eating - It required a little WD40 in order to close. Without that it would stay open and defeat the whole purpose. Also (2) it is too lightweight and I had to place small feeding bowls inside so the cat wouldn't just push it all around. Lastly (3) the pad doesn't extend far enough toward the cat for her paws to hold the lid up.

Nope
This bowl is not well designed. It needs a very specific pressure to open - if the cat uses more or less, it may not open. Even using my hands, I had varying results. The cat must place their paws in the right position AND keep them there to hold the lid open. Then, when it does open, the lid doesn’t rise up far enough for my cat to get her head in without moving her paws & WHAM! - the lid falls down. Also the bowl moves around: the rubber grips on the bottom are useless on the floor or even using a rug holder. I had to tape the bowl down.

DO NOT BUY
Lid is extremely stiff and very difficult to open. I a human could barely get it open, so I can guarantee any Cat would not be able to open it. Complete waste of money.

Lid doesn’t stay open
I gave this 1 star, but don’t feel it’s worth any stars.Unfortunately this item is useless to me and my cats. The lid doesn’t stay open even when I step….my poor cats kept getting their head stuck in between the lid and the dish, which would result in them scurrying away and food being spilled all over! Can’t return item either.DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Doesn’t actually work
The media could not be loaded. What a great idea I was really excited for the product to arrive. Unfortunately the lid is so difficult to open. Even with food loaded in when you push down the lever the bowl wants to flip over rather than the lid open. I taped the bowl down just to see if that helped and the lever is still so tough to push down I struggle to find the knack to it so there’s no chance for the cats
