I received these and the smell terrible! Like Gain detergent. Why?

Maybe they washed them before they sent them to you? Maybe you should I try washing them again in a detergent that you prefer.

Will these caps fit a quart size milk bottle?

These caps will fit any bottle with ant outside diameter of 1&3/4”, regardless of how much the bottle will hold. These caps fit my 1/2 gallon glass containers and my small 8 oz. containers because they both have a standard outside diameter opening of 1&3/4’s inch opening.

No, I was them along with the bottles, but I've never experienced a smell. I also washed them before the first use, as I do with all food/beverage items.

Will these fit circa 1940-1950's antique glass milk bottles from dairies that were found buried on a relative's farm?

I doubt these will fit older bottles. I have Vintage All Star, Borden, and Meadow Gold bottles. These fit 3 of my Borden Bottles, but one of the half gallon Borden's bottle split in less that a week. The other two are holding so far. The 1950 Meadow Gold and 1956 Borden gallon jugs are way to big for this cap.
