This history, though more concise, is as valuable as Copleston.
The first two volumes along with this one provide a penetrating analysis of the development of philosophy from the Greeks through Hume. Jones is not the only history worth reading. Kreeft and Copleston are also good. Jones is not Catholic and it shows. For that reason, his discussions of Augustine and Aquinas are valuable since his motivations are not hagiographic. I will see how he treats Hobbes and Hume.

College Days
W.T. Jones did an excellent job in presenting a lucid History of Western Philosophy. We used these books during a one-year course I took in Philosophy back in the early 1970's. They were fabulous then and I am glad to have them back in my library now.

Easy to Read!
This book reads more like a history book. It doesn't go into too much depth about the philosophers' ideologies. If you want a basic idea of what the Early Modern Philosophers believed, this is the book for you.
