Montrail delivers premier trail running and hiking footwear for athletes around the world who expect excellence from themselves and the products they use. For everyday comfort, Montrail created a uniquely contoured, thermomoldable sandal and insole. Montrail is synonymous with the best fitting, cutting-edge outdoor footwear. Review: A solid trail running shoe, but would be much better in a non-waterproof breathable version. - These shoes do a very good job with protection from sharp rock. They are very similar to Montrail's beloved but extinct Montrail Hardrock trail running shoe. They fit well and accommodate a wide flat foot. They will accept various styles of orthotic inserts. Although they are marketed as a hiking shoe they are really built like a traditional trail running shoe. Currently, none of Montrail's "trail running" shoes offer enough rock protection to deserve to be called trail runners. I will be using the Montrail Fluid Fusion in a few week for a 50 mile trail race. The main deficiency is that the shoe is waterproof and breathes poorly. If you get water in the shoe, it stays in the shoe. If Montrail were to make this show in a non-waterproof version that breathes well, then it would deserve 5 stars. As they are, your feet stay damp the whole time due to water from rain, stream crossings, or perspiration, and you need to keep changing your socks to avoid getting blisters. Review: Montrail is simply the BEST. - I love Montrail. I have a fairly wide flat foot and the Fluid Fusion Outdry fits very comfortably, I use these for wet trail conditions. For everything else I wear FluidFlex II, like walking on marshmallow but with perfect support, you wouldn't believe how comfortable they are, and no slip on any surface! I bought 2 more pair and tucked them away!

feel of a shoe ++ vs a boot
Fits the bill as a waterproof 'tennis shoe' - I purchased a "hiking shoe" also and it seems more like a boot. I have seen waterproof running shoes recently so that may be a good option as well.

Excellent shoe which was comfortable right out of the box
Excellent shoe which was comfortable right out of the box. I just ordered my second pair which is the best endorsement I can give.

Perfect Hiking Shoes, Especially for Wider Feet
I purchased these from a Mountain Hardware store in Seattle when my New Balance shoes all but disintegrated while I was exploring the area. They were recommend by someone who worked at the Columbia store next door as I was looking at the columbia shoes, so I figured if they would give up a sale to recommend them that they might be worth a look. Before even putting them on, I liked the color and style of them. They are sharp and don't look like typical hiking shoes. I couldn't believe how comfortable they were when I slid them on. I have worn many different brands and styles of shoes throughout my life, and this is one out of the two pair that has never caused many any discomfort, even while breaking them in. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I wear 13EE and these are one of the rare shoes that come naturally wide. It was raining when I bout them and I was sure that the "waterproof" thing was going to be a joke, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have washed these shoes 5-6 times and they still keep my feet bone dry, so no worries about washing them if needed. I took these things around the globe, from Washington State, California & Texas to Singapore, South Korea, Guam, and the Philippines. They did well in 110 degree tropical showers & fresh snow and never made my feet feel too hot or fail to protect them from the cold. It took over 2 years and more than 1300 miles to wear down the treads. I'm a firm believer in trying different brands and always making sure that I give things a try, but I will always have a pair of these with me from now on.
