Good programmers calculator
It seems a bit perverse to not just use the calculator tool built in to most major operating systems, but sometimes you just need to do a quick calculation without wading through menus. This does the important bit twiddling operations on buttons (doesn't have rsh/lsh/rol/ror, but you can cope) and is equally convenient for fixed point/normal calculations.Good readable screen (man I wish it was backlit) and a sturdy cover for sticking in your laptop bag.Pretty sure this is the best option outside a vintage 16cWeird limitation of 9 binary digits means you can only convert hex up to 1FF

Fine Calculator for Price, but I prefer Casio or TI
There are three calculators that are of roughly the same price that are solar-powered scientific calculators. This sharp EL-W516T, the casio fx-991ex, and the TI-36X Pro. Each of the three have various features that are better than the others but the fx-991ex is by far the fastest. All of the calculators are going to work, but the casio has the highest resolution screen and fastest processor. The advantage of the sharp over the casio is the d1, d2, and d3 programmable buttons and the fact that it maintains its memory in a single mode even when it is turned off. The other feature it has that the other calculators do not is recognizing repeating decimals and using the line over the repeating numbers notation, which can be very helpful. The Sharp will lose everything in its stack of recent operations whenever you change modes, though, which is where the TI-36X Pro is the best. The Sharp is also the slowest processor from my tests, and often is less accurate for definite integrals because of this, often only getting the first 5 or so significant digits correct on some of the more challenging integrals (Integrate[x^3/(Exp[x]-1),{x,1,100}], for example).Of the three, the Sharp is my least favorite, though it is still a good calculator for the price and I like the key presses and programmable buttons a lot. It has good features, but would benefit from a faster processor.

Probably the best scientific calculator
I got this as an upgrade from my TI 30Xa. It does what I need and so much more! Like others have said, it’s like a graphing calculator, but without the graphing part. It has integrals, summations, exact answers (pi, fraction, and square root), statistics, scientific constants, vector calculations, matrix calculations, a basic equation solver, and much more. And even though it doesn’t actually graph equations, you can input y= equations and it will give you a table of values you could use to manually graph. It can be a bit tricky to understand how to use it, but once you get the hang of it, you will be flying though menus.Overall, this is, in my opinion, the best scientific calculator you can get.

Great calculator!
My professor recommended this calculator and wow is it worth the money. It has so many functions and I will definitely still use after I am out of school. The calculator does everything for you!

My new favorite calculator
One-button hex/octal conversion, lots of functionality, very intuitive to use, nice multi line display. Much easier to use than my Casio, more functionality than my Ti-34. Slim too, less bulky than the current generation of TIs.

No manual included and not available online
This is nothing more than a paperweight for my desk. I should have stuck with TI, but just barely even that. There is no manual included with this calculator and the product page at Sharp has a link to a 404 error (page not found) for the manual so there's no way to get one.I bought my first TI-30 calculator in 1976. That came with a small printed manual with probably around 200 pages of instructions and samples. There was no Internet in those days so it was, no doubt, expensive to include a printed manual but TI did so. In the TI-30 manual there were examples of trig problems, present and future value calculations, interest and net payment/mortgage calculations, etc. The book was practically an Algebra course.Unfortunately, today, even TI manuals are terrible with only basic instructions on the keys and modes, etc., only 43 pages, or so, depending on model. But at least TI has manuals; Sharp, on the other hand, doesn't.Whatever calculator you are considering, I'd find the manuals and instructions, and review/find them to the level of detail you feel like you need to have, before ordering. Otherwise, you'll be heading off to the UPS store, burning fossil fuels, to do an Amazon return as I will have to do.Since I can't drive due to surgery, I may not even get out before the return window is over. Should have bought a TI or HP. I'll have to follow my own advice and find manuals first, before trying to order again.

Lots of features to learn. Quadratics too.
Not as simple as the old single line 506 model. Lots of features to learn.
