Question 1

What is the unopened shelf life of this product?

Accepted Answer

There is no expiration date on any of my bags of dry milk powder. I am guessing that the shelf life must be long because I have gone for months without completely using up a bag, and it still tastes great. By months, I am talking 6 or 7 months.

Question 2

Is this non instant dry milk or instant? I am looking for non instant for making yogurt

Accepted Answer

Nowhere on the package does it say "instant". The instructions for reconstituting call for this milk powder to be added to water and mixed thoroughly in a blender. Having said that, I use this only for yogurt making. I make my yogurt with fat free non homogenized milk. I add 3/4 cup of the milk powder per half gallon milk and use a hand whisk to blend the powder into the milk. I'm very happy with this brand. I used to buy Organic Valley brand from Amazon, but they no longer carry that.

Question 3

Looking at the nutritional content label, can you tell me what the serving size is and the sodium content per serving?

Accepted Answer

Three tablespoons powered mixed with 8oz water makes an 8oz glass of milk. Sodium per serving is 140 mg. Please note this is not an instant powdered milk. I mix it with hot water and a lot of stirring! But I also mix it with whole milk (8oz of each, powdered and whole) that has no antibiotics or hormones. I like it and am about to buy some more powdered milk. I hope this helps.

Question 4

Is this pasteurized?

Accepted Answer

No mention of pasteurization is made. Product Statement: NOW Real Food® Organic Non-Fat Dry Milk Powder is dehydrated milk with only the cream and water removed. It's ideal for baking since it has a much longer shelf life than liquid milk, typically several months at room temperature. Properly stored in a cool, dry place Non-Fat Dry Milk Powder can last even longer. Ingredient: Organic Non-Fat Dry Milk Powder.
