WOODWORKING WOODCARVING STRAIGHT ADZE Made of high quality steel: AISI -4150 HRC 50-55 !!! The adze is used to hew posts and beams in traditional carpentry and today the adze is also used by sculptors, boatbuilders, and chairmakers. It combines adze which sometimes can be used as axe and claw hammer. The whole in the center is for pulling nails. This ADZE is a must when you are in the forest and looking to prepare camping fire. Very useful and well balanced. Universal tool. The adze head have conic shape of the eye. The handle is from beech tree and it is made at lathe. It have conic shape also and fits perfectly to the adze eye. The handle is removable because of the easy sharpening of the adze blade as it should be! You will receive the adze removed out of the handle and you should mount it tight. It is a "slip fit" type of handle. The unnecessary part of the handle should be cuted appr half inch from the adze. Please, see the pictures! All of the adzes I'm making and selling are stamped "MF"

It was razor sharp out of the box, and as heavy/hefty as I could want.
The adze arrived a week earlier than advertised. That's nice. It's a little smaller than I expected but should work fine for its primary job, which will be removing tree roots that crop up in the lawn. The most impressive part of this tool is that it is SHARP. I am fanatic about keep my tools sharp, and I expect to put in some labor bring a new tool up to my razor sharp standard. But not this one... this is the sharpest blade of anything I've ever bought. It is razor sharp out of the box. Now I have to keep it this way as I hack roots in the ground (and rocks).

Great Tool
Excellent quality and very sharp right out of the box. Everything else that I found had a blunt edge and would need a lot of reworking to make usable.Easy to pop the handle off to sharpen the edge on a wheel, just bang the butt end of the handle on something hard.Highly recommend!

5 Star head, inadequate handle.
5 star head, came out of the packaging nice and sharp and ready for use with just a little touch up, excellent. The handle gets 2-1/2 to 3 stars and for my purposes and control it is 8" too short (give or take a little) and I have not been able to find a replacement with the correct end taper to fit the head ... since the price was reasonable I decided to keep it. But, in reality if I can't find a adequate replacement handle it will spend more time as garage/shop jewelry than being put to use. The handle search continues.......

UPDATE: Wonderful Seller!
I am updating my prior review and bumping this to five stars, principally due to the incredibly kind response from the seller regarding the return/refund process mentioned in my initial review. Do not hesitate to buy this adze so long as you consider its heft when you order.Initial Review: Ordered this as a gardening gift for my wife. She found it a bit too large and heavy for her tastes and asked me to return it. While the adze was shipped to me in Wisconsin from Rosemont IL, returns go all the way back to Sofia Bulgaria (at buyer's expense). I didn't realize this until I printed the return label. By the time I went to USPS and discovered the cost of return shipping, Amazon had already issued my refund. I am now trying to figure out how to reverse the refund and just keep the adze for myself -- it is a very nice tool.

well crafted-fabulous
Husband loves this adze for all the reasons an adze is made. We frequent county fairs where there are always people selling old hand tools, and can appreciate the quality of the craftsmanship of the, hand made, hand tools. I am impressed by the straight grain of the wood in the handle, and the balance of this adze. I ordered it and eight days later, I received it. If Mr. Tasev made violin bows, I would buy one from him, based on the qualities this tool was made (balance, quality of wood grain...).
