These simple, easy to follow instructions will guide you every step of the way. A detailed instruction card will be included in every package. Of course, there is no one “right way” in creating a terrarium. Feel free to stray off the grid. If you’re ever lost, we’re just one email away. The first (bottom) layer will consist of polished river stones. The space between each stone act as a reservoir for excess water to collect. *If you like to use the polished stones as decoration in later steps, be sure to save a couple instead of pouring the entire bag in. Optional Step: spread a thin layer of moss on top of the polishes stones to create a separation layer. This step is necessary if you want to achieve a defined separation between the layers. Add perlite. Perlite provides excellent drainage for excess water to flow through and air pockets necessary for healthy plant roots. Add activated charcoal next. It filters water as it drains. You’re almost there! Line a thin layer of soil before placing your plant in. Place your plant, then cover empty spaces with soil. Depending on the look you’re going for and final design, you will probably have soil left over. Create slopes and trenches in the soil for a more interesting effect. If you saved polished stones, now it's the time to add it in. Tie your terrarium together by adding moss.
