Best device for any beginner
I wanted to make vegetarian sushi with a friend but didn’t really know how to do it. We check amazon and found this and it ended up being perfect. It came with an ebook that was so helpful with ingredient and it had recipes! I love the square sushi pieces. It’s so cute. And it’s such an easy sushi device to use. I’ve tried a couple others that have you roll the sushi and they always fall apart. This has been the best I’ve used and I can’t wait to use it more! Favorite combo was avocado, cucumber, red bell pepper, carrots, lettuce, rolled with sushi and nori, with a sprinkle of paprika! Square an yum!

If I can make Sushi, you can too!
Proud to say I am progressing on my project to learn to make sushi at home. So, many beautiful, easy to use cookbooks out there now. There’s no excuse not to take the plunge from merely buying cookbooks (not judging!) to actually using them! There are lots of gadgets out there to help in creating exquisite sushi! This is a very sweet, well-made little gizmo that shapes the sushi rice so you can dust them with poppy seeds, or lay a very nice nice piece of fresh salmon across the top. It is attractively made from natural wood. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Rice doesn’t stick. Thanks to Amazon for books like: The Japanese Kitchen, Momofuko and Washoku.

Not lowsy plastic
Higher quality than the plastic ones. I got this as a gift because I love sushi. My dad makes it all the time and well now I have the ability to as well. I as really happy to get the bonus recipes because some of them my dad didn't even know how to make. This product is easy to use, quick to clean up and fun in the kitchen.

Nice kit
I bought this for my 13 y o grandson. He made the best California rolls that were delicious! The kit is well made with instructions. I liked the bamboo unit to assemble the rolls especially for a 13 y o hands. Very pleased with this purchase.

Great quality product just too small for what we wanted
Theres nothing wrong with the quality of this product. Its just a lot smaller than we anticipated. We wanted to make Spam Musubi and we ended up cutting them in half to fit inside the maker.

Finally, a Sushi Making Kit that actually works...and works well!
I am a Professional Home and Personal Chef and I also teach cooking skills. I take all of my kitchen items, tools, utensils, knives, serving items and other accessories very seriously and when I test and review culinary items, I am highly critical and meticulous in evaluating and rating them. My reviews are honest and unbiased. Good is good…bad is bad!I've have tried a number of sushi-making gizmos over the last few years. Always trying to find an effective one that my cooking students can use to make authentic and well-made sushi. This is it!Simple and well-made, with instructions both in the box, as well as on their website...along with a digital sushi cookbook to get you started. The wood this is made from works well, and it's important to wet it while using to keep the rice from sticking. The instructions are generally clear and this unit can make sushi rice side in, and rice side out as well as other Japanese style sushi.Though a very simple contraption, it just works. No need for tubes or mechanical press systems...this is easy to use and fully functional. The photo attached to this review is the spread I made using the Sushi Maker for the very first time. Practice makes perfect, and this is certainly not the best that it will produce, but for the first time, I am IMPRESSED with the ease and operation. This gets my professional recommendation and a FIVE STAR rating. The price is fair and it can be a real asset in YOUR kitchen. Have fun! Make Sushi today!! Bon Appetit!*If you found my review helpful to you, please let Amazon know by clicking the "HELPFUL" button below!

Highly recommend
My son likes maki rolls so I thought this would be something fun we can experiment with in the kitchen. I was attracted to this one because it’s wooden and well constructed. Many maki makers are plastic. It was quite easy to use. Make sure you use the real sushi rice, not regular rice. We started out with cooked shrimp in some spicy mayo and scallions. I wasn’t confident enough to make rolls with raw fish until I had tried it successfully. We got the ingredients: shrimp, spicy mayo, cucumbers, avocado, nori, sushi rice (cooked, cooled and mixed with rice wine vinegar, a little oil, salt and sugar) and followed the instructions. They came out great and my 11 year old was able to make futomaki (nori on the outside) rolls with ease. The rice on the outside is a bit harder but only if you use too much rice. I highly recommend this roll maker!

Easy to Follow Instructions for First Timers
The thing I like best about this sushi making kit is the simple design of the Maki Maker itself. It's so compact and easy to use and then store afterwards. The detailed instructions included many illustrations too so that made them so much easier to follow. My first use of the maki maker was very fun even though my maki rolls did not turn out as beautifully as I hoped---however that is not at all the fault of the maki maker--I didn't have rice vinegar to prepare the sushi rice "sauce" and so my sushi rice was less than workable. I can't wait to try the maki maker again with better rice. I think even longtime making-sushi-at-home people would enjoy the use of the maki maker.
