Onyx EZR Satellite Radio with Home Kit (SXEZR1H1)

I got this SiriusXM Onyx EZR radio so I could listen to my favorite music channels over my Bose Wave radio. Set up instructions were easy to follow. Selecting the right location for the antenna is the most important step. It wants you to put it in a South facing window with no blinds. As you can see from my pictures, that’s not necessary. Mine is pointing South and receiving a 95-100 % signal, (3) bars, through the wall. Once everything was connected I turned both the radio and Bose Wave on and verified I was receiving the SiriusXM radio advertisement channel. After that is when I contacted a rep via chat on their website and selected a plan. Since I already have an account associated with my car, it was very easy to get listening. This is a great radio receiver and I am amazed at how easy everything was. SiriusXM requires a paid subscription for those that might not be aware.

My wife and I have been Sirius and Sirius XM satellite radio for over 30 years. We still have our original radio and use it with issues every day. We were Sirius customers who became Sirius XM so we were grand fathered in about 15 years ago. We also have Sirius in our Lexus GX460 since 2016 so this addition is for our home. We also have Sirius on our IPhones and iPads. I say this because we just purchased the new EZR for our bedroom and have it connected to a 1974 Marantz 2220B. One of the best stereos of all time. Now it’s playing the EZR. Im telling you you this because this was the simplest installation and startup I have ever had. Plus it works with everything else I mentioned. Just to help when you buy it? 1.) keep the box it has the serial number you will need that to sign up with the 800 number and 2.) make sure you plus the connector to the red and white on the “ auxiliary “ not the “phono” if you have an old stereo. It won’t hurt if you do it just doesn’t work. I know you’re going to buy one of these. You know why I know…… because you owe this to yourself. Crystal clear audio and hundreds of channels games and talk. Sit back and relax your here now you made it.

Love this radio

The quality of the radio is not in question. However, installing this home version of the radio is difficult primarily because of the poor reception from the included antenna. Sirius XM signals are difficult to pickup from a home unit unless you have the ability to be able to mount an outdoor antenna that you can point to the satellite. Also, the included cable with jack on one end and RCA connectors on the other end does not work with some powered speaker systems. It does work with a stereo receiver unit. Overall, unless you can mount a good antenna or happen to be in a strong signal area, I do not recommend this unit or any other Sirius XM home receiver.

SiriusXM is difficult to deal with. Took way too long to switch from old receiver to new one. Phone reps are difficult to communicate with. Once resolved the system works well.

Replaced a 15 year old and tired Tivoli radio with XM. The Onyx is much easier to use, and more importantly, gets a better signal from both satellite (always almost full scale) and terrestrial repeater varies from a weak to moderate. Bottom line, the music keeps playing and never degrades even in heavy rain storms. The included antenna is inside and not even near a window but is facing a south facing wall. Audio on the line out had to be turned down to minimum. You'll have no problem feeding whatever line level device you need with this. It has been error free with no re-booting or issues and it stays on 24/7. I like that you can dim the display and go white on black text. For the price it's a bargain if you want to listen to SXM or feed it into an audio system to have always on music without dealing with streaming.

Nice enough product but the antenna that comes with is terrible. Unless you have a completely open path to the south your signal will fluctuate from no signal to medium at best. Be prepared to buy a good antenna. After replacing my antenna I always have an excellent signal.
