Does the lid come all the way off, or is it a flip-up lid that stays attached?

Flip up lid that stays attached.

Is the lining metal or plastic?

The only plastic is the underside of the lid and the removable filter. Otherwise it’s a perfect, clean line design. Using filtered water from Brita for example (regular or rapid) removes enough minerals to reduce calcium deposits. It reaches full boiling about 45-1min faster than any of the top brands (I tested against the top 1-5 based on same volume).
