A really nice device but the Visual Cards are annoying
This device is almost perfect for me. I wanted something to sit under my computer monitor and be able to act as an Alexa device and show my front door camera etc. This is does well, albeit that I had to do a firmware update in order for the device to respond to the voice command (though that was easy enough to do as it's part of the menus). The pain is that the "Visual Cards" are very annoying. I've turned off as much as I can and turned off the auto-rotation option, but if you activate the home command or you use the device at all, the screen will return to the first card and start rotating back to the clock.Add to that the display takes 10 minutes to dim and the whole thing is very distracting.PLEASE AMAZON - give us the option to dim the display after a few seconds and also a stationary display!!

I love it
We were a Google household for a long time when it came to smart speakers, however, as our devices became outdated, we made the swap to Alexa. The device build, the functionality, and integration for the price is all superior in my opinion. The only lacking aspect is the ability to ask very random questions and get a decent answer back. Alexa is good at fielding questions, however, she isn’t an almighty search engine so she loses out there. Everything is either comparable or superior.

Got everything I was looking for
I bought this to replace a DAB radio I had for few years. It was my son’s suggestion.I am chuffed with it as it does a lot more than my radio did. Best thing for my bedroom

Easy to use and set up but software very intrusive
POSITIVES:• It’s a clock/timer/alarm, it‘s a notebook, calendar and so much more.• I can ask it anything and usually get a satisfactory (or better) answer without even looking up or typing into a browser• It links to my Ring doorbell and I’ve used Alexa Routines to make it show on the device as well as my phone when activated. It will then close the Ring view before going back to the Home Screen in however many minutes I want.• I use it to speak to Alexa and have her operate many functions of the FireTV without having to pick up FireTV remote control to speak through the rc mic or key entry. • Routines also mean I can ask Alexa to operate all my WiFi enabled plug sockets for lights etc. without using rc at all.NEGATIVES…(But these are mostly ‘Grumpy old git’ complaints)• I find it extremely irritating that I still can’t find out how to stop the screen rotating and showing *#*! that I don’t want to see!• I want to choose a background, add a clock face and I want it stay until I choose something else – I’ll keep trying.• I don’t want the background rotating to show me stuff I don’t want to see.• When viewing the weather screen I need to see detail but I can’t as it’s too fast.• Conversely, when I want to show a slideshow the fastest speed is too slow.• I hate the pointless ‘Alexa for your day’ –I know I’m old now (55 – old in IT terms!) but surely wanting to choose the information I’m shown should, at the very least, be an option for those of us who have no desire to tell the world about what we eat, what we are listening to or when we are going for a… well, you get the idea.• The unwelcome – and unhelpful – ‘helpful hints’ that show every time I interact with this device (and it’s worse on FireTV) drive me mad.• Repeatedly suggesting ‘Try asking me to… … ’ and suchlike is pointless – ignoring it for at least a year of seeing it about 5 times a day every day should indicate that I either know how to do it or don’t want to.• There should be a ‘Boring old woman’ option that when taken out of the box and plugged in will do nothing, and display nothing, until I set it to do it.I know in IT terms that I’m old but working with computers for almost 40 years so I can do most of what I need to do instinctively – but the rest I just look up.Basically I want to tell it what to show and do, I don’t want it to tell me.
