DC Universe by Mike Mignola Hardcover – May 30, 2017

I’m a big fan of Mike Mignola’s art and stories. Best known for his work on Hellboy, Mr. Mignola started in Marvel before moving to DC comics, where his artwork, at least to my eyes, evolved into the form it is today.Within this volume you’ll find his Phantom Stranger mini-series, his Tales From Krypton four parter (written by John Byrne) as well as several odds and ends and covers. The Phantom Stranger mini, which I bought way back when as it was released to newsstands, sadly hasn’t aged all that well. The story proved slow and not terribly exciting and the art by Mr. Mignola was just starting to show hints of the elegance to come. Slightly better is the Tales From Krypton and subsequent Superman stories, almost all written by John Byrne and which offer an interesting take on the eventual destruction of Krypton. There are a couple of other Superman stories presented afterwards, including the return to Krypton and a gladiatorial contest overseen by Mogul (which, it should be noted, only features minimal Mignola art), which cribs and expands on the Kryptonian mini-presented earlier.There are also some Batman stories, a Neil Gaiman written Jason Woodrue story, and plenty of covers. Missing from this collection, it should be noted, is the Cosmic Odyssey mini and a couple of the Batman Elseworlds stories Mr. Mignola worked on in and around this time. These are available in separate trade paperbacks/Kindle books.Overall a good, though perhaps not quite great product that gives you an appreciation of Mr. Mignola’s growth as an artist.

Bought this as a gift for my husband who is a fan of DC and Mike Mignola. He loved it.

I looked forward in seeing the Phantom Stranger material. World of Krypton was a bit much. Nice to see the stellar Batman story that contains so much Hellboy feel to it. Too back they left out Gotham by Gaslight.

The contents are really great, and this book is filled with things that would probably never be collected if it wasn't for Mignola's awesome name and ability. It's early Mignola work, true. But it's a lot of fun, especially considering what a world-builder the creator of Hellboy is. Great stories about the history of Krypton and how they still effect Superman. Great Batman work. A Neil Gaiman Swamp Thing story and more. A really fun book. And for those who are upset that Cosmic Odyssey is not in this collection, it just got a collection of its own. Also, Gotham By Gaslight has also been reprinted many times and this book would have been much larger and pricier if these stories were included. Also, the paper-stock and gloss on every page is fantastic. I only wish Cosmic Odyssey had been given the same stock and gloss.

I've been Mignola fan since he first entered the scene at DC. This book is like having all of my memories captured between 2 covers. Highly recommended.

Great book in great condition.

Pra quem aprecia a arte do criador do Hellboy, esse material é perfeito. Ele copila histórias menos famosas do artista, você não vai encontrar Gotham by Gaslight ou Odisseia Cósmica aqui, o material é o trabalho mais esparso do Mignola na DC: capas, fill ins, minisséries (que nunca seriam publicadas sozinhas, por não terem apelo). A qualidade da escrita varia um pouco mas é brm boa em geral. O interessante da arte é ver a arte dele com outros arte finalistas e ver como o estilo dele avançou com o tempo

Além de ser fan do traço do mignola, esse encadernado traz 2 mini séries completas, o mundo de kripton com roteiro do John Byrne, uma do Vingador Fantasma, e estórias bacanas como uma do Superman no exilio, do Batman, além de diversas capas!

El gramaje de las hojas es muy bajo muy delgadas es el unico pero que le pondria , el diseño del libro esta muy bien y la cantidad de material tambien. El unico detalle es que vienen portadas separadas en dos secciones en lugar de una sola corrida

Die Entwicklung des Künstlers Mignola auf vielen Seiten mit größtenteils guten Autoren; gibt's auch gebunden; die längeren Batman Storys gibt's separat

Era a obra de Mignola que faltava em minha coleção. Mesmo com histórias já conhecidas do mestre, outras do início de sua carreira que eu ainda não tivera o prazer de ler estão ali, para degustar... Vale o preço.
