This trawl is great and a must have if you're installing Ditra Heat or Ditra Heat XL. This trawl is designed to spread the exact amount of thinset needed for Ditra Heat XL. Go wider and you will waste thinset aka money and go smaller and you will not get good coverage. Just buck it up and buy this if your a pro or a DIY it will pay you back in time and thinset cost.

This item cost more than others, the notches are radiused, and it's coated with something that allows you to clean it faster, and it doesn't rust. By far the best choice.

Kinda works kinda doesn’t, but overall not necessary to the process
Be very aware of the viscosity of your thin set. Schluter products want you to mix the thin set to a “fairly fluid consistency but still able to hold a notch” but this is not a good description. Allow your thin set to sit for 10 minutes after mixing to verify its fluidity as it needs to be slightly thinner to Aunt Jemima’s syrup. This trowel is basically unnecessary unless your tile requires this specific of a trowel size.
