This is a very solid, sturdy, well- built, and attractive item. I really like the way it looks in my garden. I hope the butterflies will like it too. There was an insert with directions for where to place. I bought a shepherd’s hook plant hanger on Amazon to hang it from and it is perfect. My only comment about improving this item would be to have it open at the top, not the bottom. I removed two of the screws on the bottom and loosened the third screw just enough to be able to swivel the bottom piece around to get access to the opening. I then put in mulch and some bits of bark and a couple of twigs. However, since you are holding the house upside down, or at least sideways, whatever you put inside will all fall into a different place when you reattach the bottom and turn it right side up. Not a huge problem, but no way to be sure the twigs are in a position where they will be useful to the butterflies. Overall I am very pleased with it.

This is a quality product. I hung it from a shepherd's hook in my flower garden. The instructions stated that mulch and twigs should be placed inside for the butterflies to nest on, however, the bottom is difficult to remove/open due to the three screws. I think the unit should be easier to open/close. Otherwise I'm very pleased with this and happy to provide a nighttime "hotel" for the butterflies.

You're supposed to put a little dirt and twigs in the bottom but it opens from the bottom so that makes it a pain plus it's held together with wood screws which have to be removed to put the twigs and dirt in. Normally wood screws aren't make to remove too many times before the hole strips out. And so far the butterflies aren't impressed either, they never use it

I knew the opening to add bark and sticks was on the bottom (which is weird on its own) but I did not realize you have to fully disassemble the thing to get in there -- the bottom is screwed in, not an easy latch or anything. Not the world's biggest issue but definitely just a bit more annoying than it needs to be. It does look nice in the garden though and the price feels appropriate.

No visual way to open and clean. Very beautiful wood. Nice quality.

I bought it as a gift but it's so simple yet beautiful I'm going to but another for me.
