how many oz or ml capacity? ... do they seal air tight?

Hi - Thanks for your question.  We designed Babadoh take dough balls up to about 250g but as you will know, it really all depends on your recipe.  A 250g dough ball should have more than enough space to double in size which is what we always aimed for before opening out into a pizza.

The actual capacity is 600ml.

The lid is not airtight by design as it is just loose enough to let gasses escape as the dough ball proves and rises yet is tight enough to keep the dough ball from drying out in the final stages of dough prep.

Why are these $60?  I like the idea but seems like a lot for Chinese plastic, no?

Hi, thanks for your question – it’s a good one.

The price is for 6 Babadoh containers that are designed in the UK, made responsibly from the highest quality silicone and have passed Food Contact Material safety testing to meet LFGB and US regulatory requirements.

We chose silicone over plastic for a number of important reasons, which explain the difference in price from cheaper plastic containers.

Silicone is really durable, significantly longer lasting than plastic and won’t break, crack or become brittle with use, so can be re-used for years and years.

It is flexible, which makes it easy to release and manipulate dough out gently, without damaging the round ball.

It endures heat and cold better than plastic, so you can use it in the microwave and oven (up to 200oC) without it melting or warping, and you can use in the freezer without it becoming brittle.

Silicone is stain resistant, dishwasher safe and easy to clean. Furthermore, each Babadoh container is formed from a single mould of silicone, with no sharp corners or ridges where harmful bacteria can collect.

We also think the Babadoh colours look much nicer than a variety of plastic tubs (although we totally appreciate that benefit is down to individual taste).

Last, but definitely not least; silicone is free from the chemicals that are used to manufacture plastics, so no BPA, BPS, lead or phthalates which are thought to lead to health issues.  The durability of silicone means Babadoh containers can replace plastic containers that easily break and need to be discarded sooner than a silicone equivalent ever would. Which means less plastic containers entering our oceans and landfill.

Why are these oval shaped rather than circular?
