Best way to raise kids
This book is the "Cliff Notes" version of How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk by the same authors. If you like this book and want to know more get the fuller version.I SOOOOO wish I had had this book when I was raising my kids!!! This is the way to raise kids and greatly reduce the tug of war that so often goes on. This method helps raise kids who are compassionate, understanding of the feelings of others (because they have never been denied their feelings) considerate, respectful and able to make the right decisions. There is no such thing as a conflict free household when raising children but this method greatly brings greater calm to dealing with children, reduces the tension, anger, rebellion and bad feelings that often ensue.Every parent should be given a copy of this book after delivery of their child!!!!Another GREAT book by the same authors - How to Talk so Kids Can Learn, should be required reading for every teacher but you can use it too as a parent at home to help your school age kids!Great stuff!!!! Highly recommend this book!

Bonus Benefit
I'm long term fan of Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish's parenting education, (and of their parenting educator, Haim Ginott), having studied long before having become a parent, & ever since, myself. I've discovered that not all other folk like to learn from books as much as I do, so I bought several of these tapes, when they were on sale, as potential gifts. My DIL, a busy parent, listened to her tape in her car, on her way to work as a phone triage nurse. She was able to apply much of what she'd so recently been learning during phone calls from patients. She reported adding those fresh new skills had contributed significantly to improved effectiveness, brevity, and patient satisfaction of their interchanges -- a bonus.

Great, Fast Parenting Tips
I love their straight forward work based on Haim Ginott's principles. This book reminded me and gave me new tips to handle situations with my kids in a very quick read. Just what a busy parent needs. Their other books provide more depth. This one cuts to the chase.

I especially like this one
I am a fan of all of the books in this series. I especially like this one, because it is short, easy read, and comes with an audio disc that you can hear as you drive or clean the house. I still feel that it pays to read the other books, because of the sections that are barely mentioned, or need expanding upon (such as the steps before problem solving as alternative to punishment, which is similar to engaging cooperation, from the previous chapter. ) I still feel this is an excellent review, and an ideal first choice go the non readers and super busy moms, that would otherwise not get around to reading it.

Helpful guide for the savvy 21st century parent or parent's helper
"We have all left something behind," stated trusted family guide, Po Bronson. And that something, is the perfect childhood with all of the nurturing, care, good & helful advice, and great experiences that we somehow missed out on and wish for our children to have. This heartfelt and constructive quilt of parenting advice and family help by Faber and Mazlish gives every parent and parent's helper (childcare provider, educator, coach, pediatrician, family doctor or therapist) many constructive ways that illustrate how to do it. I highly recommend this gentle but powerful book and its bigger sister, How To Talk So Kids Will Listen And Listen So Kids WIll Talk.

This was recommended by a counselor who advised it had good
This was recommended by a counselor who advised it had good, easy to understand suggestions on how to better understand and parent your children. It is a pretty concise book....short and to the point. After the first two chapters, life around the house became much nicer. My middle school and high school aged children were getting along better with each other and their parents. The parents have to be the role models and mutual respect is key. Wonderful purchase.

Same stuff over and over
I do like this book but it's exactly the same as "How to Talk..." series. I loved the how to talk books and I was hungry for more but this was a total disappointment. Even the examples are exactly the same, nothing new so why write another book? So the point of the review is don't buy it if you have the "How to Talk" book.

Good primer if you don't want to read the other books
This was a good book to give to my husband, who didn't want to read the entire "How to Talk to Kids Will Listen...". Basically the Cliff Notes version.

Great follow up!
I thought this was a great follow up but was a little disappointed it was so short! I guess that is also its strength: a very quick read with such powerful insights and specific ideas to maintain great relationships with your kids

trop court - leger
