Just buy it, and thank me later
I've been with amazon for over 7 years now and have never written a review before; this product is so good that I just had too.I honestly picked this product because I have had an interest in cold brewing, love the Kitchen Aid brand, and loved the design of this product. It looks better in person than in these photos (something that almost never happens), and it feels very solid. You can tell this is just good quality once you open the box.It is a very simple process, fill the filter thingy up with 250g of coffee grounds (I just eyeballed it because they have a fill line to give you an idea of where you should stop pouring, in case [like me] you don't have a digital scale in your kitchen), coarse grounds are what you want to use, but I didn't have any in the house and just used my fine grounds. You let it brew in cold water in your refrigerator or on the counter in room temp (I went with cold water + the fridge) for 12 to 24 hours (the longer it brews the stronger/more bitter it will get); I went with 15 hours. Then you remove the filter thingy and you can begin drinking your coffee. I like it black, so I pour my cup (already filled with ice) a third of the way up with the coffee concentrate you brew from this cold brewer and the rest of the cup with water, stir and enjoy. It is easy to clean, looks great, holds a large amount of coffee in a small amount of space, and I love how nicely it fits on the shelf of the fridge, as if it was always meant to be there. If you are thinking about buying this, stop thinking about it and do it. This thing is the greatest thing for coffee lovers since the discovery of the bean.

KitchenAid KCM4212SX Cold Brew Coffee Maker
We ordered a refurbished KitchenAid KCM4212SX for substantially less money and it recently arrived in perfect condition as far as I could tell. A rep from Amazon told some years ago that refurbished were still warranted by Amazon and often just the packaging was damaged. In this case, it was factory refurbished and was in excellent condition. As a retired mechanical engineer, I can truly appreciate the ergonomics that went into the design. It’s a tremendous design and simple to use. I will be making cold brew tea more often than not while my wife will undoubtably be making cold brew coffee. The concentrate ratio for tea leaves is substantially greater than the coffee ratio but both are significant. I completely took the unit apart today to clean it and get a better understanding of how the unit works. It shines with quality and weight and is easy to operate. Some thinking definitely went into its design. The plastic wrench doubles as a plastic nut to hold the drain and after that is removed along with the hose it has another wrench at its end to fit the plastic nut that holds the valve. The valve is sturdy and is also of high quality in my opinion. I’ve looked up the chemistry behind cold brewing and I do recommend that you do the same. The taste of cold brew is amazing if you have never had it before. I recommend that you use filtered water and heat the water enough to dissolve your sugar ahead of time so as to get it into solution. You can then throw in some ice that was made with the filtered water to cool it down. You would only do this if you knew exactly how your going to like it based on the ratios. As I recall, the concentrate coffee ratio is 3 to 1 and the tea leaves is 7 to 1. Once you get comfortable using the device, I think you will be keeping your concentrate readily available. The amounts are given by weight which can be estimated with the lines on the unit. We are fortunate to have a very nice high end scale. More and more I seem to be finding recipes that specify amounts by weight in grams. Again, once you have made a batch of one or the other, I think the lines will suffice.

Works great!
Super easy to use and even easier to clean.Only dislike is that the instructions are unnecessarily difficult to follow lolBut once I figured out the correct amount to use when brewing, it was easy enough.Definitely worth it.I was hesitant over the price, BUT it’s extremely good quality. Thick glass, easy to wash, and looks great in the fridge.Easy to quickly fill a cup in the go with the spout on the front. This is one purchase that I am extremely happy with and glad I spent the money to get a good quality one.

This is just delicious fun.
This is one very cool machine. And the XL was on sale. How could we resist! Summer is grueling here in the Deep South. We need life’s little pleasures. This coffee maker is everything the ads say it is. And even an inquisitive old lady like me can use it, barely glancing at the instructions, which were not especially helpful anyway. What a fun discovery!! I now know all about coffee concentrates, and creamers that combine with the concentrate and water to create an even better coffee concoction than our favorite coffee shops sell us, and for a fraction of the cost!!I don’t believe it will take us very long to get our money back on this operation.I made the first cold brew with Jot and filtered water. It is absolutely incredible, mixed with just about any creamer and topped with a squirt of whipped cream😁One thing we discovered is that we prefer a low fat milk or even Coffee Mate to sweet creamers, which are too rich and sweet for our tastes, and frankly we don’t need the sugar. My second cold brew batch will be an experiment using fresh coarsely ground coffee beans. Can’t wait!My only disappointment is that I have been unable to find the coffee maker stand.NOTE: This machine is no light weight, and heavier when filled.
