Can you bring two sets of these bottles on a carry-on for a flight? Or just one?

Check with your airline. From what I understand, if it fits in a 1 quart container (and each bottle is no more than 3 oz.)it's good. But check with your airline.

How durable are these? I've used similar and those ended up leaking and the top broke off...

Our travel size bottles are durable. Pls don't fill to capacity, make sure there's some room left and screw it tight, our silicone toiletries bottles also come with a clear zipper bag to keep everything organized. No matter what issue it is, pls remember to contact us anytime (email on customer service card) and we'll help to make our customers happy and satisfied.

Can this hold hair gel for everyday use?

Yes. I use it for lotion and hair gel.

Does this plastic retain smell? Can different scented things be used without having random smells mixed in?

These are silicone containers with plastic cap, it won't retain smell if you clean them well every time before you use these with neutral detergent. Also this silicone travel set comes with 16 stickers to help you lable the tubes, and a clear durable bag for more convenience.
