A solid Fables collection
Required reading if you want to get the whole Fables story, and very enjoyable reading besides.

I am very happy to see the Fables spin-off series also reprinted in ...
I am very happy to see the Fables spin-off series also reprinted in deluxe format. I hope that this augers well for similar treatment of Cinderella and Fairest eventually. The tone of the stories is different from the main Fables series, but enjoyable and with many easter eggs as literary tropes are reified as characters in the story.

Jack from Fables gets his own book.
Every bit as good as Fables. It turns out every fairy tale with someone named Jack in it is all about the same person, Jack of the Tales. Jack is a womanizing, douche bag, conman always looking to strike it rich. Just when his schemes are bout to succeed, his wicked ways come back to bite him in the ass. Some of the characters are self aware about their nature as being in a story and can take a metaphysical twist. In the first volume, Jack gets snatched up by this group that is looking to make Fables fade away by removing them from the public zeitgeist. We meet a bunch of Fables we haven't seen before as the Golden Boughs might as well be a second Fables farm. He immediately hatches an escape plan to break out. Next, we learn about Jack's time as Jack Frost while he hides out from the librarians. Jack heads to Vegas with his trusty sidekick Gary who can anthropomorphize any inanimate object. Jack faces off against Lady Luck because Vegas ain't big enough for the both of them. Lastly, Jack learns about his origins and how he is tied to Wicked John. One of the Page sisters plans a top secret mission with Paul Bunyan. The metaphysical portion of the series kicks off in this volume as we learn about who Kevin Thorn really is and that Jack has grown so popular that he has become a story magnet. Babe the Blue Ox's one page daydreams start in this volume and continue throughout the series. We also hear how Jack become Jack O'Lantern. Collects the first 3 Jack of Fables trades or the first 16 issues.
