Good fan for laser engraving exhaust
Bought this as an upgrade to the exhaust fan on a Chinese K-40 Laser Engraver. Big step up from the cheesy fan they include with those things. It moves plenty of air to keep my workshop fume free. In fact, you have to be careful when cutting small lightweight pieces like cardboard. The first time I tried, as soon as the piece was cut free, it would get sucked out the exhaust and shot outside! I may add a speed controller when cutting those types of material. It's reasonably quiet during operation. I barely notice it, and it's hard to even hear over the top of other shop noises. It looks pretty durable, but I only run it a few hours a week so I can't judge it's long term reliability yet. The case is all metal construction and I think the impeller is too. Comes with an attached mounting plate so you can bolt it down. Clearance around the housing can be a little tricky though, so don't expect to just run a few drywall screws through to hold it down. If you're looking for a laser exhaust, I highly recommend this one. Update 10/2020: 2 1/2 years later and still going strong. There is a pretty thick film of soot built up inside of it, but so far it hasn't skipped a beat. I mostly cut 1/8 plywood, so it's generally just wood smoke that gets pulled through. I have heard that if you run certain types of plastic the fumes can degrade exhaust fans, but I don't do enough of it to be able to judge. No regrets on my purchase.

Works Well to Keep My Grow Room Air Moving
I use this in my 4x10 grow room to help control the humidity, regulate the temperatures and move some air. I do not use it with a carbon filter as the smell is not an issue for me. I use it with the iPower speed control, which I recommend. I have it on a timer so I can adjust when and how fast it runs based on the readings of the hygrometer in the grow room. As for the noise level, well I have mine in an adjacent room that is used for storage. I have a flex hose that goes through the wall to an intake vent and another hose that goes to an exhaust vent in the window. So being as it is in an adjacent room, the noise level is not something I really notice or care about really. That said, if you were to use it in say, a basement space and were you intend to spend time, the noise level would be fine I think. That is really a matter of personal tolerance. I would say the noise level is "expected". It is a very well made fan though with a smooth operation and it moves a lot of air for sure. It will work very well in a 4x4 room, but I would definitely recommend getting the speed control to help regulate how much air it draws. It also depends on how much you seal the tent/grow space too and how it's vented. I suspect that some people who are complaining about how much air it moves are not providing intake air so the fan in effect...starves for air. I suspect this fan will last a long time and can definitely recommend it for the purpose noted in this review.

Incredibly nice fan
This is an incredibly nice fan for a 6". Used with a speed adjuster (I purchased an Active Air ACSC Duct Fan Speed Adjuster) you can make it as quiet or as effective as you need. If you do turn down the speed, you can expect it to start up very slowly, since it is a centrifugal fan. For that reason I'd recommend never giving it less then half power/speed when using an adjuster with it. If you want to quiet it down further, you can either get a leather jacket for it (some models are sold with them), or make one yourself. Bear in mind it will raise the temp of the fan when using as hot air exhaust, if you do use a jacket. It is a little larger than I expected, but that's just my inexperience with this level of hardware. With a setting of halfway it moves more air than I need, and is little more than a hum in the background. It heats up during use since I have it as a hot air exhaust fan, but it's construction lends itself well to this purpose. It can take quite a bit of heat and keep spinning happily. It stabilizes and makes less low end noise when it is running at top speed, but more general noise as you'd expect. Overall very happy with the fan and would recommend it for any use.

Best specs for the price
Great specs - best CFM and high temperature tolerance in this price range. It moves more air and can tolerate higher temperature than most other fans anywhere close. I got this to help ventilate an attic, but it is installed in an area that does not get as hot as where it's helping ventilate. Unfortunately, my first one started squealing after only 2 days and had to be replaced. This was handled hassle-free by Amazon. I realize there is a certain expected failure rate coming out of manufacturing and I may have just gotten a bad one through luck of the draw and will update this review either up or down from the initial 4 stars based on how long the replacement lasts. TIP: When mounting, use rubber or nylon washers to help reduce transmitted vibration. Also you can't really get a screwdriver lined up very well from above, so consider either running the screws up from beneath with lock-washers on top, or use hex-head screws so can use a tool to hold the top still better while you tighten your washers beneath. Pay attention to the arrow which indicates the direction of air flow. When choosing whether to push air in or pull air out, consider the overall airflow of the space and whether you want to create a positive or negative pressure. Many will default to using such a fan to pull air out, but in some cases you could be better off pushing fresh air in and letting that force out the existing air. What is safe and appropriate depends entirely on your application and you should consult local building codes.

Awesome fan for bath vent
I purchased this product to replace the standard vent fan in my bathroom. Let me say, this thing blows every bit of the cfm that it says (I got the 4" which is around 200cfm). I cranked the shower as hot as I possibly could and the mirror never fogged and the walls never got moist. My wife does not like the fan on during showers because she gets cold so she only turned it on after the shower and the bathroom was evacuated very quickly (~5 minutes). The install was pretty simple: I cut the 3-prong plug off and wired it to the existing fan's 2-prong electrical connection. The fan is quiet, much quieter than the old 50cfm as50. However, it would be nice if it were quieter but it's blowing 200cfm so what can you expect? Overall great product, easy install, does what it advertises.

It's a beast
I seriously don't doubt the CFM ratings for this whatsoever. It's a bit loud on high, but this is easy to fix (it's completely dependent on the ducting. No sound comes through the casing. And it's definitely a solid machine. YES it leaks a bit of air around the sheet metal connection between the front and the back, but it's pretty sturdy (and heavy). TBH though, I'm amazed my unit still works and barely any vibration... I've dropped it or it came loose and fell 5 feet and rolled another 3 feet more than once. Mine is 6" and is just awkward to hold and mount. And I put a single layer of gorilla tape or clear duct tape (not packing tape!) Around the 2 flanges. As they're only about an inch long.but semi rigid aluminum tube stays fine with a clamp. And definitely don't use anything less smooth like flexible ducting tube on the intake (see below). 12" and the blower sounded like it was really going, but it was barely moving 1/3 of what it's rated... The mount is nothing to write home about and it's good enough to mount on bungee cords hanging from a 12" L-Bracket right to a stud (it definitely vibrates on different speeds. (Get a $5 controller from Amazon. My first one wouldn't get hot running a shop vac and the second was a 4-pack for $11). And don't go below 1/2 speed (by airflow). BTW I did my research on this type of blower and you're not supposed to slow it down with basically a glorified light dimmer, but the intake restriction is how you would tweak the volume under varying loads, etc. If you block the output, it will ramp up the power to try and compensate... But very slight changes to the input really change the output while it remains at more or less constant speed. So put a grille obviously and you want something for a muffler (1 or 2 sizes larger tubing with coarse wire mesh in the correct diameter and polyester pillow fill between the rigid outside and the mesh tube, so I did 7" with a 1/2" mesh and 10 or 12" (or 2 home depot buckets long, but one might do it. Look at commercial duct silencers online for restaurants, etc and you'll get an idea what's needed physically for components. HTH

Easy to install, smooth motor, and lots of suction!! Solid A grade for this product!!!
We used this product to exhaust welding smoke from our building. Fan is very powerful and for the amount of air it is moving it is not that loud. Could it be quieter...yes of course, but it fairs really well for what it is. Motor housing is steel and very solid built. Comes with regular 110 volt cord end for ease of use to simply plug into an outlet. Unit is very well balanced and did not wobble or make any noises what so ever that it was not said to. Unit is pretty light and can be used in many different settings due to its design. I would recommend this product all everyone looking for a great motor with an economy price!!!

Not long lasting
Great fan in every way except they last a little over two years and then you have to replace them.

This thing is a miracle..
I used this for central AC air circulation in line in an attic based air handler.. it went in FAST and easy, it moves a huge amount of air quietly... in our case so quietly that I attach a ribbon to one of the air registers to be able to tell when it is running.

Sturdy, fast shipping, all around great buy.
Works great, and seems to have a very sturdy, solid design. Shipping was a good few days faster than expected too. I don't have anything similar to compare the volume to, but it seems to be pretty quiet (its running now and i can barely hear it through a thin plywood wall). Glad I went with this and not a more expensive one, its exactly what i needed.
